Metrolink Train Derails In Oxnard, California After Colliding With Truck On Tracks

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A Metrolink train derailed Tuesday morning after it collided with a truck on the track in Ventura County, officials said.

The VC Line 102 train, which was headed southbound to Los Angeles, hit the car around 5:45 a.m. near 5thAvenue and Rice Street in Oxnard, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.  

The truck caught fire and four train cars derailed.

At least 30 unspecified injuries have been reported, Metrolink said. It was unclear if there were any fatalities.

Emergency personnel have responded to the scene.

“All southbound traffic is shut down on Rice Ave at Sturgis Road. All northbound traffic on Rice Avenue is shut down at Channel Islands Boulevard,” Oxnard police said.

Metrolink reports that all Ventura County trains will experience extensive delays due to the accident.

    We made it past Oxnard on Amtrak a week and a half ago.

    Unfortunately, we DID manage to hit a drunk in Santa Barbara that subsequently held us up for 4 hrs.
