Names of More than 16,000 Concealed Weapons Permit Holders in Florida Exposed In Hack

The Daily Sheeple – by Lily Dane

Florida Department of Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam announced on Monday that hackers may have obtained the names of concealed weapon licensees in a data breach that “appears to have originated from overseas” (must be those Russians again!).

The breach may have revealed the social security numbers of 469 customers, and another 16,190 may have had their names but “no other individually identifying information” was compromised.

In 2006, the Florida Legislature passed a law that made the names of concealed weapon permit holders confidential.

Commissioner Putnam has ordered a comprehensive review of the department’s cybersecurity measures. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is assisting the department with its investigation.

The 469 people whose social security numbers may have been obtained by the hackers have been offered free credit protection for a year.

The gun owners, well…it is safe to guess that they are already adept at protecting themselves, should someone use the exposed information to find them and try to steal their weapons.
