Jerad Miller didn’t die on his own terms after all, the Review-Journal has learned.
It was a Las Vegas police officer — not Amanda Miller, his wife — who fired the shot that ended the life of the 31-year-old cop killer, according to an official with knowledge of the case.
Metro police initially thought Amanda Miller, 22, killed her husband in the Wal-Mart. That was based on security video footage that showed her pointing the gun at him, the official said.
But an autopsy revealed Tuesday that Jerad Miller died from a .223 rifle shot, the official said. It was Jerad’s fatal wound — his wife didn’t kill him, as police officials said Monday, the official said.
Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy said he could not confirm the report, citing the ongoing investigation.
Police aren’t sure which officer’s shot actually struck Jerad Miller during the shootout Sunday morning just after the couple executed two officers in a CiCi’s Pizza in the northeast valley.
That could be determined as the investigation continues, the official said.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie and Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill were at a multi-agency police debriefing Tuesday and could not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Police have clarified several of the preliminary details reported after the shooting happened Sunday about 11:22 a.m. near Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.
McMahill said at a news conference Monday that Jerad Miller and his wife Amanda walked into the pizza parlor and targeted officers Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31, who were eating lunch.
Jerad Miller shot Soldo once in the back of the head with a handgun, McMahill said. Beck tried to “engage” the couple but was shot in the throat before he could fire a shot. The Millers shot Beck several more times as the officer slumped to the floor.
Gillespie initially said Sunday that he thought one officer had returned fire.
The couple then covered Beck with a Gadsden Flag, a yellow banner with a coiled snake above the words, “Don’t Tread on Me.” They then pinned a note to Soldo’s body with a swastika pin that said this was “the beginning of a revolution,” McMahill said.
The couple took the officers’ handguns and left for Wal-Mart, where Jerad fired a single shot and yelled about starting a revolution.
Joseph Robert Wilcox, 31, was in the store with a friend and saw Miller fire the gun. He was carrying a concealed weapon and told a friend he was going to do something, McMahill said.
As he moved to confront Jerad Miller, Wilcox passed Amanda, not realizing the two were together. She slipped behind Wilcox and shot him at close range. His efforts were “heroic,” McMahill said.
More Metro officers arrived minutes later and blocked the back door with a patrol car. When Jerad Miller shot the door from the inside to open it, a five-officer team entered and had a shootout with the couple.
Both Millers were apparently struck by police gunfire, although McMahill said Monday that only Amanda was hit.
The couple then laid down in the middle of the store’s automotive section, covered in oil and antifreeze. Although the security footage showed Amanda Miller point her gun at her husband, she apparently never fired.
Instead, she shot herself in the head. She died at a hospital; her husband died on the Wal-Mart floor.
The new information raises more questions about the intentions of the couple, who had greater delusions of death and mayhem on their minds.
Neighbors told police the couple left their apartment at 4:30 a.m. Sunday and said would murder cops. It seems that few people took their threats seriously; both had rambled about right-wing extremist conspiracy theories in online videos and on social media sites for years.
The couple brought bags containing a shotgun, the officers’ handguns, two other handguns, 200 rounds of ammunition, knives, first aid supplies, camouflage clothing and MRE-style food.
It’s not clear why they targeted the officers at CiCi’s.
At their apartment complex, police found detailed plans to take over an unidentified courthouse and execute public officials. Detectives also found three empty rifle cases and an empty box for handcuffs.
Police believe the Millers acted alone, although the agency is being cautious. For the time being, there were will be 300 to 350 Metro officers on patrol instead of the usual 150.
Jerad Miller had a criminal history in Washington state and Indiana dating back to at least 2000, with arrests and charges ranging from misdemeanor battery to felony drug trafficking. He met Amanda in Indiana; they married in 2012.
Around January, the month the Millers moved to Las Vegas, they were interviewed by federal law enforcement officers after they threatened to “shoot up” a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Indiana, according to a law enforcement official in Las Vegas.
Jerad Miller wrote often about the country’s “fascist government” and was an avid supporter of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy. The couple had hoped to join the militia standoff with federal agents trying to remove Bundy’s livestock from federal land, but they were kicked off the ranch after the militia learned Jerad Miller was an ex-felon carrying a gun.

The bottom line is this couple were murdered and set up. Henry hit it dead on today. These people were set up because they were easy targets. We all need to be on out toes. This will happen again to anyone who is easy prey for these communists.

My take on this set up:
Henry was dead on today. This couple were not much different than any of us. Nothing they said was “extreme” to any of us. They were not from Nevada. They had no real ties there. They could easily be linked to this crime. They were set up. I believe as Henry said that someone else did the killing, they were brought into the Walmart and murdered by the CIA. No one will ever see any real video footage of any of this because it was all a set up.
This will get the result that they want, so more of this will happen very soon. These people were Patriots that came to Nevada because of the call to action at the ranch. They are now casualties in the war. Ad them to the list of KIAs.
We all better be watching our sixes.
I thought of that scenario, too. They probably monitor people like the Millers on Facebook and have them on a “list” of PATSIES. Then they shoot cops and throw the Miller’s bodies there. LOOK WHO DID IT!!!

Exactly Bitter, They were not neo nazi’s. As to what transpired in that restaurant, the news said there is video footage of Ci Ci’s and walmart, we will never see it! I have a question or two, 1. How long does it take to remove a Police officers belt when the story is now ,the Policemen were sitting in a booth(another change in the story line) that is a lot of dead weight” no pun intended”to be moving around , not to mention time?2. Did Jared and Amanda pull Officer Beck and Soldo from the booth, lay them on the floor and drape the Gadsden Flag over one and pin a note on the other .3. In the time of taking their Belts, Weapons, moving the body’s, pinning a note to one of the Deceased ( if they did move them) did they put down their weapons? and if so was there no one to intervene or did everyone just run like hell? I believe all this can be cleared up if they would just release the video’s! As for being to graphic to show to the public, a valid point,but when the story changes day by day, I think we are entitled to see it!
Exactly. There is no way that they were able to do that. A cold blooded killer with experience could barely make that happen. There is no way some newby killers could or would do that in front of numerous people. The guys who killed the cops were professionals.

Strange. We have the full name (middle included!) of the (alleged) 3rd victim of the (again, alleged) shooters, but “a friend” remains TOTALLY nameless? WTF??? It’s been my experience that most people LOVE to get their mugs on t.v., or their names in the paper, and would jump at a chance like this. Hell, there’s talk radio shows, YouTube, maybe even a shot at getting on Dr. Phil.
I honestly believe they keep changing the story so many times, tossing out red herrings, just to keep us off balance. (and by us, I mean the awake, not the sheeple. They’re perpetually off balance to begin with).

Today with what we have for police. The police are going to have to be very carefull not to kill these people right or wrong. so that they can tell us why before a Jury. And the whole truth is known. There are today to many cases were it would be justifiable to kill cops over there own actions towards the tax payer. They need understand that we have been beat for so much as speaking to them, infernal afairs has refused to even answer or do investigations when they know there police are wrong, they have refused to respond but for there freinds, They have threatened to turn the area criminals loose on any who they don’t like. But not broke a law. Just to prove to us they are the police and they are allowed to be such as this. So it is important that we the tax payer get to hear the whole story of the why they get shot. And judge for ourselfs all the facts. Not just more well we the police say. As there are no 2 words left a cop can put together that can be belived today. And that you did to yourselfs.

Like Henry says, he supposedly writes about combating a “fascist government”, yet he supposedly places a swastika on the dead body. I’m confused.
Unless, they are trying to say that the supposed shooter (Jared) knows they are the fascists and that’s why he put it on there. But if that was the case, wouldn’t he just rip it up and place it there to show his disdain for the swastika and fascist government rather than placing it all nice and neat for them? Makes no sense.
