The mother of a -12-year-old boy who brought a grenade to school for show-and-tell related to World War II lessons has been arrested.
Johnson Academy in Stratford was placed on lockdown around 10:30 a.m. Friday and students were evacuated to the auditorium until a State Police bomb squad determined the grenade was a simulator used for training.
Lisa Miguel, 44, of Stratford, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of an explosive.
When Miguel’s son told her about the lesson at school, she gave him the simulated grenade to bring, police said.
She told police that the grenade was from her late-father’s military days and she thought it was a “dud,” police said.
Miguel did not immediately return a message from the Associated Press seeking comment on Tuesday.
State Police said simulator grenades can combust and cause injuries within a 20-foot radius.
