Okotoks homeowner charged with shooting at suspects seen rummaging through vehicles

This is what happens in my neck of the woods if you try and protect yourself and your property. I hope I get called in for jury duty.

An Okotoks man has been charged after reportedly firing shots at a couple of people he spotted rummaging through his vehicles this past weekend.

According to Okotoks RCMP, the homeowner caught two men breaking into vehicles on his property early Saturday morning and fired shots at them.

One of the alleged suspects was eventually taken to hospital under guard after police found him with a wounded arm. The other suspect fled the scene and as of Monday, had not been identified.

While the break-in suspect is facing charges, the homeowner is as well. Police said the incident should serve as a reminder to people that they can’t fire a gun at someone to protect their property.

Edouard Maurice, the homeowner, was arrested on Saturday and is now facing charges of aggravated assault, pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 9.

The suspect, identified as Ryan Watson, was discharged from medical care on Sunday and then taken into custody. He faces charges of trespassing by night, mischief to property, theft under $5,000, possession of methamphetamine and failure to comply with probation.

He appeared in court in Calgary on Monday.

Police are continuing to work to identify the second suspect and ask anyone with information to contact Okotoks RCMP at 403-955-6400 or to contact Crime Stoppers.

  1. “Police said the incident should serve as a reminder to people that they can’t fire a gun at someone to protect their property.”

What else is the true purpose of a gun but to protect property.

  2. It’s time Canadians took their heads out of their ass, and realized the law is for the criminals not the victims. The Government, and the Police are here to protect The Criminals not (the Victims) God help the citizens of Canada because nobody else will, especially the police, or law enforcement. Right now in The States The Democrat Left are try to take the guns away from Americans, they want a Left Government to control the People. Its called Communism.Don’t believe me Just wait and watch, Trudeau is one of them, so is Gerald Butts, his adviser. Vote for that Prick again and you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

    1. Ted, if you’ll recall, Trump is a republican which would put him on the right of the “leftie/rightie spectrum, yet this rightei/Trump is calling for restrictions, bans, etc.. So is it only “lefties” that are after our 2nd Article to our Bill of Rights?

We either have LAW or we don’t. There are not repubs/democ, conservatives/liberals, lefties/righties, etc..

Again, we have LAW and that’s it. If anyone claiming these labels, which are irrelevant, is not upholding our Bill of Rights they are lawless and committing treason, period.

  3. So the only persons able to protect themselves or property are the “employees ” with a badge? What a bunch of sh*t! Everything is so back asswards now a days it’s sickening.
