IDF ground forces began to move into the Gaza Strip on Thursday evening, the prime minister’s office confirmed.

The purpose of the operation was  to destroy the Gazan terror tunnels leading to Israel, according to a statement released by the prime minister’s office.

“Israel is committed to act to protect its citizens. As US lawmakers grapple with ways to slash spending, many were shocked to learn authorities are spending $250 to $1,000 per day to care for each minor apprehended crossing the US border.

More than 57,000 unaccompanied children, mostly from Central America, have been caught entering the country illegally since last October, and President Barack Obama has asked for $3.7 billion in emergency funding to address what he has called an “urgent humanitarian solution.”

STOCKTON — Stockton Police have identified the surviving bank robbery suspect on multiple charges, including homicide, after a prolonged chase and shootout on Wednesday in which a hostage and two suspects died.

MADISON (AP) — A Wisconsin dairy farmer who has vigorously fought for the right to sell unpasteurized raw milk lost an appeal Thursday over a misdemeanor conviction stemming from a state raid of his farm in 2010.

Vernon Hershberger is the face of the movement to legalize raw milk in Wisconsin, testifying in support of bills in the Legislature and waging a fight against his 2013 conviction of violating a holding order placed on the sales of products at his Sauk County farm after a 2010 raid by state regulators. A Malaysia Airlines plane carrying was reportedly shot down near the Ukraine-Russia border Thursday, killing all 295 people on board, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior ministry said.

An aide quoted by Interfax said the total number of dead in the crash was more than 300 and includes 23 U.S. citizens.

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — The discovery of the jawbone of a missing, pregnant Maui woman helped authorities file a murder charge against her ex-boyfriend, a person familiar with the investigation said Wednesday.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — A Ukrainian fighter jet was shot down by an air-to-air missile from a Russian plane and Ukrainian troops were fired upon by missiles from a village inside Russia, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Security Council said Thursday.

CHICAGO (July 16, 2014) – Cases of the highly contagious, drug-resistant bacteria, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), have increased fivefold in community hospitals in the Southeastern United States, according to a new study published in the August issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, the journal of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.

“This dangerous bacteria is finding its way into healthcare facilities nationwide. Even this marked increase likely underestimates the true scope of the problem given variations in hospital surveillance practices,” said Joshua Thaden, MD, a lead author of the study. “A CRE epidemic is fast approaching. There were over 3,500 authorized wiretaps in the U.S. last year, mostly related to drug cases. One state, however, has far more wiretaps than any other based on its population.

Many people claim that handguns are useless for protection against bears.   Numerous examples have shown that this is a false notion.   Handguns may not be ideal as defensive weapons for bears, but they can be effective.  In a defensive situation, you have to use what is available.   In this case, a homeowner in Alaska used a .45 against a brown bear that was trying to get into his house on July 7th of this year.  He and his son were in the home.   He had scared off the animal with some warning shots just three hours before.   Continue reading “AK: .45 vs 9-Foot Brown Bear”

STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — Robbers fleeing a California bank took three women hostage and threw two of them from their getaway vehicle, as they fired repeatedly at police during a high-speed chase. Police shot out their tires but the shooting continued, fatally wounding two suspects and the last hostage.
