A London-based reporter for Russia Today resigned Friday in protest over the network’s coverage of the recent Malaysia Airlines plane crash.
Sara Firth, who has worked for RT since 2009, announced her resignation via Twitter, writing: “I resigned today from RT. I have huge respect for many in the team, but I’m for the truth.”
Firth told Buzzfeed that she resigned because she the felt the Kremlin-funded news channel was trying to pin the blame for the apparent shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 on the Ukrainian government. SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — About 100 of the passengers on the Malaysia Airlines flight that was shot down over the Ukraine on Thursday were reportedly AIDS scientists and researchers heading to Australia for a conference.
World Health Organization spokesperson Glenn Thomas was also among the victims.

WASHINGTON — On the morning of April 25, Jose Moreno Serrano pulled his Dodge SUV into a border checkpoint in Arizona, ostensibly on his way to work at the Mexican Consulate in nearby Yuma.
Using his consulate VISA and SENTRI pass — essentially a “fast pass” for frequent border crossers — Moreno quickly moved through security and into the United States at 7:42 a.m.

CNN has pulled correspondent Diana Magnay out of her post covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after the reporter tweeted that Israelis cheering bombs hitting Gaza, and who had allegedly threatened her, were “scum.”

Shipping giant Federal Express has been indicted for drug trafficking for illegal online pharmacies and conspiracy to traffic controlled substances by the US Department of Justice.

A disease transmitted by mosquitos has appeared in the US from the Caribbean, with health officials expressing frustration over their inability to control the spread of such pathogens.
American mosquitoes for the first time are spreading the chikungunya (chik-en-GUN-ye) virus that was once confined to the Caribbean and tropical Americas. There is presently no cure for the infection, which causes symptoms similar to dengue fever, including severe joint pain and swelling, muscle aches, headaches and fever. DETROIT (AP) — A young man who participated in a mob attack on a Detroit-area motorist needed a father to “beat the hell” out of him as a kid to discourage him from committing such a crime, a judge said Thursday.

SYDNEY (AP) — In an almost incomprehensible twist of fate, an Australian woman who lost her brother in the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 learned on Friday that her stepdaughter was on the plane shot down over Ukraine.
Kaylene Mann’s brother Rod Burrows and sister-in-law Mary Burrows were on board Flight 370 when it vanished in March. On Friday, Mann found out that her stepdaughter, Maree Rizk, was killed along with 297 others on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, which U.S. intelligence authorities believe was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A man who converted his antebellum home into a cluttered, quirky Elvis Presley shrine was found dead Thursday on the front porch, two days after police said he fatally shot a man who forced his way into the museum.
A motorist called police Thursday morning after seeing Paul MacLeod, 71, slumped in a chair outside the shrine known as Graceland Too, said Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson. The agency commissioned an “expert panel” to make recommendations on how to guide the more than 47 million Americans on food stamps into spending their benefits on fruits and vegetables.
The group released an 80-page report this month presenting their ideas, which include talking shopping carts and a marketing strategy for grocery chains that would feature better store lighting for healthier items. The more I learn, particularly when it involves history over about the past two centuries, the more I discover that things are almost the opposite of what we have been led to believe they were. Historians, for instance, consistently rank Woodrow Wilson as one of America’s best presidents, but now we have a very well reasoned argument from David Stockman that almost everything bad that happened in the 20th century resulted from Wilson’s decision to involve us needlessly in what was known at the time as the Great War. And Stockman even omits any mention of theBalfour Declaration, whose promises Great Britain could not have made good upon without U.S. entry into the war, and the endlessly troublesome state of Israel would not have been created. ENGLEWOOD, Fla., July 17 (UPI) — Residents of a rural area in Florida are fighting a proposed housing development by putting up signs warning their potential new neighbors about what really goes on at farms in Englewood.
Specifically: Noisy, smelly, outdoor sex.
