The Lonely ConservativeWow! Nancy Pelosi sure has done a 180 when it comes to war and Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. In 2007, as Speaker of the House, she ticked off the Bush administration for meeting personally with Assad. At the time he assured her that he was looking for peace, and she believed him. She was also quite vocal in her opposition to the Iraq war and the surge, even though the Iraq war was authorized by Congress. But today, she’s all gung-ho for attacking Syria, with no input from Congress.
“It is clear that the American people are weary of war,” Pelosi said. “However, [Syrian President Bashar al-Assad] gassing his own people is an issue of our national security, regional stability and global security. We must be clear that the United States rejects the use of chemical weapons by Assad or any other regime.”
Pelosi added: “What Assad has done is outside the realm of basic human rights. On this evening’s call, I expressed my appreciation for the measured, targeted and limited approach the President may be considering.
If she’s that convinced, why isn’t she, as minority leader, calling for Congress to return for a debate and a vote?
