Phoenix police: Suspect in deadly shooting shot by officers along I-10

Fox 10

 – Police say the suspect in a deadly shooting has been hospitalized after engaging in gunfire with authorities along Interstate 10 west of Phoenix.

Phoenix police say 36-year-old Sladjan Petkovic has been hospitalized after he was shot by authorities early Tuesday morning along I-10 west of Phoenix.

Petkovic was a suspect in the deadly shooting of 45-year-old Steven Arvallo on November 27 near 99th Avenue and Broadway Road.

Investigators say Petkovic and Arvallo had been involved in an ongoing dispute and Petkovic shot Arvallo when the two got involved in another argument.

Petkovic also shot multiple times into Arvallo’s home while there was an adult woman and juvenile male inside, however, neither were injured.

Before leaving the scene in a grey Jeep Cherokee, Petkovic tried to force his way into the home and shot Arvallo several more times.

Authorities encountered Petkovic west of Phoenix along I-10 early Tuesday morning near a rest stop. During an exchange of gunfire with authorities, Petkovic was shot and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

No officers were injured during the shooting.
