Police Departments Caught Selling Guns They Get Through Gun Guybacks

Mr. Conservative – by Warner Todd Huston

What do police do with all those guns they take in at those so-called gun buy-back programs? Apparently they sell them for a profit!

This is what UPI news found from a police department outside Chicago. The St. Charles Police hosted one of these gun buy-back things to “get guns off the streets.” But what did the police do? They turned around and sold many of the guns to make a profit and put those guns right back “on the streets.”

How did the police justify this? Why, it’s a “budget friendly” move, chief James Lamkin said.

“There’s value in these guns,” Lamkin told the Chicago Tribune. About 20 guns have been sold so far, he said. “They’re not illegal guns. Quite honestly, it’s a bottom line for us,” he said.

Some may see a hypocrisy here. Police make citizens believe that these guns are taken out of the hands of the people and destroyed. But apparently in many cases this is simply a lie.

Don’t get me wrong. Personally I have no problem at all with the idea that the police might identify guns that are worth money, are rare or historically significant and would choose to sell them to fill the coffers of the cops. I have no problem with the idea at all. In fact, I like the idea that such guns are saved from destruction.

But this isn’t exactly how the liberals sell this sort of program to the public, is it?

The facts become a little more clear when seeing this story. It is all a bit less about “getting guns off the streets” and a bit more about “putting cash in the police department’s bank account.”

What do you guys think?

  1. That is after the top cops have gone through them and took the ones they wanted. Just remember they are the largest street gang in the USA and they prove it more with each passing day!

    I think it sucks.

Those overpaid, donut destroyers need to be incarcerated, NOT making more money on the side.
