Police Officer Shot; Suspect Barricaded In Inglewood Home

Authorities respond to a shooting in Inglewood in the 10700 block of 5th Avenue on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013.Huffington Post

An officer was shot Wednesday afternoon in Inglewood, Calif., according to several local news outlets.

The suspect is barricaded inside a home with at least one hostageheld at gunpoint, according to CBS Los Angeles. An armored SWAT vehicle, more than a dozen police cars from multiple law enforcement agencies and at least one police helicopter responded to the scene, according to KTLA.

The incident began at around 12:35 p.m, when law enforcement officials responded to reports of a 14-year-old girl being dragged by a man near 108th Street and Fifth Avenue, according to NBC LA.

One of the responding officers was shot while wearing a protective vest, according to NBC Los Angeles. That officer has been hospitalized, but is alert and conscious.

Initial reports indicated that two officers were shot, but Inglewood police Capt. James Madia later confirmed with Channel 9 a second injured officer had not actually been struck by gunfire. Both officers are “fine,” Madia told the station.

Both injured officers were taken to Centinela Hospital, the Inglewood Police Department confirmed with CBS LA.

The situation reportedly began with a domestic dispute. Neighbor Kimberly Edwards told KTLA that the man who called police told them to “please get my sister out of the house,” according to the LA Times.

At least two children were seen being carried out of the home just before 2 p.m.

Nearby homes have been evacuated.

“It is a quite dynamic situation,” Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Keith Mora told the station.” It’s kind of dangerous to be out in the street. If you don’t need to be there, please stay out of the area.”

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

  1. I count a minimum of 20 police vehicles in this pic. Are you kidding me? California is a cesspool. Talk about over staffing. Reduce government in California now. How many police does it take to arrive at a crime scene 45 minutes late and then kill whoever they see they don’t like? Judgement day is coming for these jack booted thugs who do nothing but rape pillage and destroy. They don’t support the public. They are simply clean up crew for the corporations and elite. Wake Up You Stupid Sheep! BBBBAAAAAA

    1. No shit. I was just doing the same thing.

Honestly, they make it so easy. All you have to do is cry gun and 20 cop cars show up at your door. Meanwhile, as the whole police force is distracted by that one person, two or three other groups or gangs are terrorizing other parts of the city. Good job!

As the kid in Die Hard with Vengeance says when all of the NYPD are out looking for a bomb at schools, “Look around you. It’s like Christmas. You can rob city hall.”

Talk about putting all of your eggs in one basket. If the militia and We the people were smart enough, we could use that against them and to our advantage.

  2. Bahahaha! That last pic of the cop holding the baby to show the people that the police actually care for the people. What a joke.

As if the police give two-shits about anyone but themselves. Especially California cops. I’m surprised he didn’t tase the little girl. I guess that pic was all for show.

And why the hell is he wearing a battle helmet? Is there a war going on that I don’t know about?

Omg…..Can they get any more ridiculous. Talk about a Hollywood production.
