PARIS, Jan. 9 (UPI) — A second hostage situation unfolded Friday in Paris after an armed man seized a hostages at a kosher market.
A witness told Sky News U.K. that the gunman was armed with a Kalashnikov when he entered the market. Six hostages were reportedly inside and two were believed to have been killed.
Police and medical personnel are on the scene at Porte de la Vincennes as the standoff continues.
Shortly after the incident began, French authorities released the identities of two individuals suspected in the shooting death of a policewoman on Thursday, a day after a massacre at the office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Hayat Boumeddiene, 26, and Amedy Coulibaly, 32, were named in the point-blank shooting of the policewoman. The gunman wore a bulletproof vest and escaped arrest. Police have not determined whether Thursday’s attack is related to the Charlie Hebdo massacre.
French media have reported that Coulibaly is the gunman at the kosher market.
