MOSCOW, January 28 (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Wednesday with Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor on international affairs to Iran’s spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The meeting focused on issues of bilateral relations, as well as problems of regional and global importance.

Relations between Moscow and Tehran are currently enjoying an all-time high and should remain strong throughout 2015, Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan said last week.

Russia and Iran are planning to launch a joint account to switch their bilateral trade to national currencies, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei said on Monday. He also announced that the two countries are considering the possibility of creating a visa-free regime in 2015 for businessmen and tourists.

Last week, the two countries signed an intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation during Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s visit to Tehran.

Russia and Iran are also expanding their relations in the areas of nuclear development, news and information.
