St. Louis police officer shot in ‘ambush’ attack, chief says

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis police sergeant was hospitalized in critical condition but expected to survive after being shot Sunday night in what the police chief called an “ambush.” Police Chief Sam Dotson said the 46-year-old officer was shot twice in the face. The male suspect was later killed in a shootout with police.

“Fortunately for the blessing of God the officer’s going to survive,” Dotson said during a brief news conference after the shooting. He declined to name the officer but said he is a married father of three who has been with the department for about 20 years.

The officer was not involved in a call or a traffic stop but was sitting in traffic about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when another car pulled up alongside his marked police vehicle. The officer told police he heard at least two shots.

“This officer was driving down the road and was ambushed by an individual who pointed a gun at him from inside of his car and shot out the police officer’s window,” Dotson said. Mayor Francis Slay said the officer did nothing to provoke an attack.

“He didn’t deserve this,” Slay said. “It looks like he’s going to survive. He’s going to be OK. But this is traumatic. It’s traumatic for him, his family. It’s traumatic for the city of St. Louis. He was just doing his job.”

Police reported that officers later pulled up behind the suspect’s vehicle and that he fled on foot. Police said the man fired shots at the officers, who returned fire, killing him. No officers were shot.

Police said the suspect, whose name was not released, was wanted for violent crimes and likely feared being recognized. The attack in St. Louis came on the same day three other officers were shot, one of whom was killed.

A San Antonio detective was fatally shot in his squad car while writing a traffic ticket by someone who pulled up from behind. Detective Benjamin Marconi, 50, was a 20-year veteran of the San Antonio department.

An officer with the Gladstone, Missouri, police department near Kansas City was shot late Sunday, along with a suspect. Also, a Sanibel, Florida, officer was shot in the shoulder during a traffic stop Sunday night, and was treated and released for his injuries.

In July, a gunman in Dallas killed five officers who were working a protest about the fatal police shootings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana. Ten days later, a man killed three officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. And earlier this month, two Des Moines, Iowa-area officers were fatally shot in separate ambush-style attacks while sitting in their patrol cars.

In the St. Louis area, Ballwin, Missouri, officer Mike Flamion was paralyzed from the neck down after being shot during a traffic stop in July. And St. Louis County officer Blake Snyder was fatally shot while responding to a disturbance call in October.

“This just shows the dangers of policing, not only here in St. Louis but around the country,” Dotson said.

  1. ‘the officer did nothing to provoke an attack’
Yeah at that exact moment. What is he guilty of during the past 20 years? Most crimes are legal if your a government agent.

    1. Exactly. That’s what so many copsuckers fail to understand. Even if a pig is helping an old lady across the street when he gets shot, that final act of decency doesn’t atone for all the lives he’s ruined over victimless crimes, or for all the other violence he’s done to the Bill of Rights, in exchange for a paycheck.

  2. They sure are good at creating their own enemies

    Waco the biker shoot out
You see where the cop that just got killed the other day point blank as he sat in his car writing a ticket out for the car in front of him
As a car came up behind him and the driver got out and iced him as he sat in his car

Paybacks a bit ch , and if this is what’s going on down in Texas , how can they say they don’t own this?

  3. If this uptick in officers being shot continues (real or manufactured) it might be a precursor to the iron fist flailing around a bit more wildly then we are used to.

First: we have Trump promising a police state.

Second: Trump promised mass deportations which could be used as a smoke screen to come after dissenters.

Third: The establishment has promised a war of attrition via censorship and defunding on dissenting media.

I said it in a previous post but NPR was selling the idea of Trump using internment camps to round up Muslim immigrants, then they stated “but that would do nothing to stop home grown terror”, it was very round about however its bringing the idea to a mainstream discussion.

As I’m writing this NPR mentioned the officer shot in Texas, Missouri and two more unnamed officers with zero details.

I do not feel this is a time to relax…. I think the police state will be in full swing…. When they come out we must crush them…. Its the only way.

  4. “This just shows the dangers of policing, not only here in St. Louis but around the country,” Dotson said.

This has nothing to do with the “dangers of policing”. It’s about the dangers of killing, robbing, and raping innocent Americans because someone pinned a tin badge on your chest.

How many police were killed before they started abusing the citizenry? It was a rare occurrence until they started to unleash their reign of terror upon Americans. Every pig that’s killed is only getting what they deserve.

  5. dont make enemies with the people you are sworn to protect..
the back lash is more then you cry babies will be able to endure

oops too late , like many many years too late

just wait to see all the “goody goody 2 shoes” cop stories trying to humanize these killers ,, Im sure theres already a shit ton of cats saved out of tree stories and saving some kids thrown in there , plus a few cops buying bums shoes and a coffee

    wont save their a#ses

and if a full blown Police State comes at us ( its already here) im sure a lot of people will step up to the plate , as they were done wrong by this gang before

    1. I agree but I think there is a lot more room for the police state to grow. They are yet to come at us full scale for our free speech and armaments…. They just poke at us from the periphery. I think all their war games have them loosing the war with both their operatives and propaganda arms. I think we are actually winning in many ways, the Ukrainian conflict is a great example of how they will fail if they try to come at us directly.

      1. If they come at us too hard — and they might — they risk pulling the wool off the eyes of the public and creating a lot more popular support for a revolution. The pigs realize that they need a certain level of popular support in order to operate.

That’s why every time a new police brutality video makes the news, the pigs don’t simply disregard public opinion. Instead they go into damage-control mode: “We promise a full investigation…we ask that the public not rush to judgment…the video doesn’t tell the whole story…” — all the usual boilerplate.

  6. ***“This just shows the dangers of policing, not only here in St. Louis but around the country,” Dotson said.***

Oh, I don’t know…he doesn’t seem to scared to me. Seems to me ‘ol Ranger Danger could stand a whole lotta more fear in his life. He’s not screaming “Help me!!” and acting all panicky yet.
Perhaps when he’s on his knees pissing himself and begging for his life he will feel the fear he and his kind create for others.

  7. “He was just doing his job.”

When your job entails mammon extraction at gunpoint and beating down & murdering innocent Americans, YOU DESERVE TO GET SHOT IN THE FACE.

The one thing you DON’T deserve is to survive it.

  8. We must remember Maidan, Ukraine and how the coup developed there with outside funding and mercenaries who shot at both side; they murdered Russians and Ukrainians to get them at each others throats. They can do the same thing here in America…study it well and don’t be caught off guard. The question is how does one stop a scenario that hands the nation lock-stock-and barrel over to the likes of people like Victoria Nuland, John Bolton, Obama or Trump…conundrum eh? A pincer movement to destroy/weaken the country…They would have no problem killing cops or anyone to further their demonic takeover/destruction. If the alt-media cannot even brand Trump for the Neocon loving Zionist he is, I do not think the alt-media could wipe their own ass much less distinguish their right hand from their left.
