The rise and fall of the American shopping mall

Published on Nov 28, 2014 by PBS NewsHour

From retail to e-tail, is Cyber Monday the new Black Friday? Indoor malls have been in decline ever since consumers discovered online shopping, and many retail spaces are either closing or being repurposed as shopping habits evolve. Economics correspondent Paul Solman reports on the fate of America’s malls from Akron, Ohio.

  1. I’ve always felt that shopping malls were a waste. The cost of lighting and heating indoor malls always gets passed onto the stores who in turn increase their already outrageous prices. China has more than enough “distribution centers” in the form of Walmarts all over the country as it is.

  2. The simple fact of economics is hardly addressed here. I think it has less to do with online shopping than it does with the shrinking American family budget. I noticed that Black Friday crowds at our local Wal-Mart were hardly more than any busy weekend. Dollar stores are popping up like mushrooms all over the landscape. I foresee a short life for those stores as well.

  3. I would be curious to see the demographic makeup of the residents within 10 miles of the mall at the time it opened until the time it closed.

  4. Anyone notice how the commentator, and all the “people” he talked to were JEWS?????

Oh that really makes me want to race down to a Jewish owned shopping mall and get ripped off by a bunch of Jews who are also ruling a political apparatus which has a boot on my neck!!

Is there any aspect of our lives these degenerate parasites don’t control? Is it just me, or am I a voice in a choir?

    1. Well thank God Solman talked to Weinstein, Grossman, Sclesinger and Sciera(probably kosher?) so we could see how bleak it is for them to not see (pronounced Nazi) as much money pour in as previously as they sip on chocolate martinis. Maybe they’ll get a bail out from us next?!
