This man is a GenX’er and he realized a long time ago that there was going to be no retirement for him.
“I sold all the things that I had, cashed in my retirement, and purchased some land out here in Tennessee to live on.
And now what I have to do is pay for permission to… pic.twitter.com/PWXbL6Bp3O

Yeah, I know Ayn Rand wasn’t perfect (who is?) but she did deliver some shimmering pearls/warnings. Here’s what she said almost 70 years ago:
“When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods but in favors – When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you – When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – You may know that your society is doomed.”
— From ‘Atlas Shrugged,’ 1957
Now, I’d say anyone who sees “the doom,” and is not addressing it, surely is not alive. Is slow death really so appealing?
I hate to repeat it, but every effort, no matter how small is better than none.
.
A few more from Ayn:
“We are fast approaching the stage…where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission.”
“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me?”
“A ‘right’…means freedom from physical compulsion, coercion or interference by other men.”
“The only proper purpose of a government is to protect man’s rights.”
“When the framers of the American republic spoke of ‘the people’…they meant a sum of individuals, each of whom…retains his inviolate guarantee of individual rights.”
“The collective cannot decide what is to be the purpose of a man’s existence nor prescribe his choice of happiness.”
“Any alleged ‘right’ of one man, which necessitates the violation of the rights of another, is not and cannot be a right.”
“If some men are entitled by right to the products of the work of others, it means that those others are deprived of rights.”
“America’s abundance was created not by public sacrifices to ‘the common good,’ but by the productive genius of free men.”
“Since only an individual man can possess rights…’individual rights’ is a redundancy. But…’collective rights’ is a contradiction in terms.”
“The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities.”
“The only proper purpose of a government is to protect man’s rights.”
