Trump Open to Revisiting TPP if He Can ‘Make a Substantially Better Deal’

Breitbart – by Charlie Spiering

President Donald Trump said he would be willing to revisit the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal — if a better deal can be reached.

“I would do TPP if we were able to make a substantially better deal,” he said, calling the Obama-era trade proposal a “terrible deal.”

Trump made his remarks during an interview with CNBC’s Joe Kernen while visiting the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Kernen appeared stunned by the response and was silent for a few seconds.

“Are you surprised to hear me say that?” Trump asked.

“Yeah, I’m a little taken aback,” Kernen replied.

“Don’t be,” Trump said.

He explained that he preferred bilateral trade deals because they were easier to terminate if there was a problem. The TPP deal includes negotiations with 12 Asian-Pacific countries.

Trump again called the NAFTA trade agreement a “horrible deal.”

“I may terminate NAFTA. I may not. We’ll see what happens,” he said.
