US suicide rates surge, surpass road fatalities

More Americans now die of suicide than from car accidents, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a disturbing statistic that some experts say points to the true depths of the US economic crisis.

From 1999 to 2010, the suicide rate among US citizens between the ages of 35 to 64 soared by about 30 per cent, to 17.6 deaths per 100,000 people, a jump from 13.7.

In 2010, there were 33,687 deaths from motor vehicle crashes and 38,364 suicides.

Although suicide has been traditionally viewed as a problem among the youth and elderly, the recent study, published in Friday’s issue of its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, shows a marked rise in the number of suicides among middle-aged men and women.

The suicide rate for men aged 35–64 years jumped 27.3 per cent, from 21.5 to 27.3 per 100,000, while the rate for women increased 31.5 per cent, from 6.2 to 8.1.

Among the male population, the greatest increases were among those aged 50–54 years and 55–59 years, (49.4 per cent, from 20.6 to 30.7, and 47.8 per cent, from 20.3 to 30.0 respectively). Among females, suicide rates tended to increase with age. The largest percentage increase in suicide rate was observed among women aged 60–64 years (59.7 per cent, from 4.4 to 7.0).

Men were more likely to take their own lives than women. The suicide rate for middle-aged men was 27.3 deaths per 100,000, while for women it was 8.1 deaths per 100,000.

Suicide rates from 1999 to 2010 “increased significantly” across all four geographic areas and in 39 states. The state of Wyoming recorded the highest increase in suicides with a 78.8 per cent jump (31.1 per 100,000), while even the sunny state of Hawaii witnessed a 61.2 per cent increase (21.9 per 100,000).

As shocking as the newly released data on US suicide rates are, many believe the numbers are too low since many deaths are not treated as actual suicides.

“It’s vastly under-reported,” Julie Phillips, an associate professor of sociology at Rutgers University, told The New York Times. “We know we’re not counting all suicides.”

Baby Boomer crisis

CDC officials emphasized that the Baby Boomer generation is witnessing the highest increase in suicides (A Baby Boomer is a person who was born post-World War II, between the years 1946 and 1964, when the annual birthrate increased dramatically in the US).

“It is the Baby Boomer group where we see the highest rates of suicide,” CDC deputy director, Dr. Ileana Arias, told the New York Times. “There may be something about that group, and how they think about life issues and their life choices that may make a difference.”

The rise in suicides among this group may be connected with the recent downturn in the global economy and the challenges the Baby Boomer generation must now confront.

“The increase does coincide with a decrease in financial standing for a lot of families over the same time period,” Arias said.

In 2010, the first year of economic comeback following the 2009-2010 recession, 93 per cent of all pre-tax income gains went to the top 1 per cent of the American population, which in that year meant any household earning more than $358,000.

Is financial crisis spurring suicide?

Is the rash of suicides across a broad spectrum of the American population a direct result of the wealth hoarding by the top income earners in the United States?

In a letter to The Lancet medical journal, scientists from Britain, Hong Kong and United States said an analysis of data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that while suicide rates increased slowly between 1999 and 2007, the rate of increase more than quadrupled from 2008 to 2010, Reuters reported.

“There is a clear need to implement policies to promote mental health resilience during the ongoing recession,” said Aaron Reeves of Britain’s University of Cambridge, who headed the research and submitted it in a letter to The Lancet.

Reeves even suggested the Democrats and Republicans are partially to blame for not throwing a spotlight on the issue during the latest presidential campaign.

“In the run-up to the US presidential election, President Obama and Mitt Romney are debating how best to spur economic recovery, [but] missing from this discussion is consideration of how to protect Americans’ health during these hard times,” Reeves warned.

Meanwhile, preliminary research suggests that the risk for suicide will unlikely subside for future generations.

“The boomers had great expectations for what their life might look like, but I think perhaps it hasn’t panned out that way,” Phillips said.

“All these conditions the boomers are facing, future cohorts are going to be facing many of these conditions as well.” The study pointed to the increased usage of prescription painkillers, like oxycodone, which can be particularly deadly in large doses.

There was a significant jump in poisoning deaths, which include intentional overdoses of prescription medication. During the 10-year period, poisoning deaths were up 24 per cent over all, while death by suffocation, (including hangings) was up 81 per cent.

  2. It’s no wonder the rates among those who are near retirement age are “checking out”. Recently the pain management clinic I go to was shut down by the DEA STORM TROOPERS. I’m sure there were drug seekers going there. However: many of us were legitimate patients with real pain management problems. I have bulging disks that an orthopedic surgeon said would only get worse with surgery. I was taking 12 to 18 Tylenol daily just to be able to function. that was 5 years ago and now I had hernia surgery last year that didn’t go very well; so there are more pain issues in my case as a result of that. I am also a type II diabetic that comes with it’s own unique pain issues. Of course Medicare refuses to pay for the most effective drug for treatment of diabetes. $250.00 a month is more than 25% of my SS check, SO THE $4.00 PILL IS ALL i GET. These “sacrifices” they say we are making for their jew wars are needed? A “sacrifice” is something you do when helping someone out of a tough spot. When a “sacrifice” is foisted upon you by a malevolent jew loving government it is not a “sacrifice”: IT IS TYRANNY! Getting an appointment with another pain management clinic has been extremely frustrating. The first one I went to was a freaking joke. I went to their “orientation” where we were told that “Jesus will fix everything”. A human rights activist who was murdered by the jews over 2,000 years ago ain’t gonna do diddly squat. They wanted to start out with psycho therapy for 2 months and then discuss the possibility of getting a weeks worth of prescription grade Motrin for “safety issues”.
If 16 Tylenol was not enough to get me even comfortable, that Motrin ain’t gonna do it. I’ve been on 50 mg hydrocodone daily for over 5 years, and still have bad days, but manage to go to work. I have to work because I cant afford to pay $300.00 a month for Medicare supplemental insurance and live in a comfortable state. I am lucky that my house is paid for and only have a relatively low car payment.
I have enough hydrocodone left to detoxify my system. I’m down to 20 mg a day right now and already need 8 to 10 Tylenol a day to keep from rolling on the floor in agony. Once that’s gone: how many Tylenol I’m gonna need is anybody’s guess. My liver is already starting to hurt from the Tylenol.
I found a pain management doctor who will see me in mid July. I don’t know if my liver will be destroyed by then…we’ll see. He don’t write prescriptions on the first visit, so It may be August or September before I get anything.
A few of us had exchanged phone numbers when the Doctor was shut down. So far 2 of the people I got to know have “checked out” because their pain became overwhelming. I had kidney stones last year and thought to myself “this ain’t so bad”. After hearing horror stories about the pain from kidney stones from others; I was surprised that the pain wasn’t what I was led to believe. Or could it have been as bad as rumored and just being masked by the hydrocodone in my system?
The pain center I first went to; the one with the Jesus freaks is part of Covenant Health Services, the place is called “Alabama Pain Center”. They got a racket going there where they find every service an insurance company will pay for and give you that “service” whether you need it or not. I thought, at first, it would be a good place to go because they are affiliated with Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville Alabama. Just a heads up about “Covenant health Services”, they are all about getting as much money from their “patients” without offering any meaningful help. I guess it might be a good place to go if you like hearing how “Jesus” will help you!
The bottom line is this: the government wants to help make as many people suffer as they can manage, because dead people don’t require health care and are not collecting Social Security. They really do want to kill off as many older people as they can, be it by direct intervention or denial of the basics that can make for a relatively healthy, and longer, life.
THEY WANT US DEAD, DEAD, DEAD! for the “bottom line”.
They can take my Bronze star and shove it up their filthy jew asses. I will NEVER defend or “serve” this filthy empire again.
FOYI: my diabetes was cause by “Agent Orange”, VA denies all culpability. I also got infected with hepatitis from a dirty injector at one of their “inoculation” stations in basic training. We were fooled into doing their murder and now we are the next victims because we know the truth and are also a drain on their war chest.

No Kim, we HATE this dump and the filthy zion ist jews & co. who created it, as well as the dump called the world also massively infected by the jews, with as much passion as you. I am lucky to not have health problems, even at 60.

Of course the scumbag criminal genocidal government denies agent orange caused anything. Their job is to lie, cheat, steal, and murder.

I feel your rage, not frustration. It is an exponent of mere frustration.

All I can say Friend, is take it a day at a time. Hang on. Rest assured the ANY AND ALL of the 1,000,000 + f-ing filthy roaches who had even as much as a TINY hand in all this shit for the past 75 years, if they are still alive, will pay a price that no one wants to ever pay. When we are done, they be placed in all those fema coffins, not us.

This tyranny has a price, that they just cannot seem to imagine. Soon, they will though.

If you don’t have a Pet, adopt a Dog or Cat; it will help your deal with life a lot better.

    Your friend, JM

    1. They don’t deserve to be placed in those FEMA coffins, they are actually grave liners designed to hold one casket, as many as 10 corpses can be placed in one of those liners, without a casket, that is how they intend to use them, bury us in a coffin? no just put us into them for only one reason: so the ground water don’t get polluted. if it wasn’t for the health risks of so many bodies they intend to be laying on the ground, they would be willing to just let the bodies lay where fallen.
I say: wrap their stinking corpses in pig skins and feed them to the dogs, which is the ultimate insult in their Satanic culture. To be wrapped in something “unclean” and eaten by something “unclean” is what they deserve. They should also die V E R Y S L O W L Y and extremely painfully just like they do to the Palestinians they murder when they harvest their body parts, sometimes while still alive, for the black market. How do you think Darth Cheney got his new heart?
I work with an Iraq vet who had been programmed with the same kind of racist rhetoric I got before shipping off to Viet-Nam. He is slowly coming around to the fact that there was a real attempt to brainwash him. I recount my experiences that run parallel with his. He’s also having problems with his treatment from the VA. He’s got a lot to be pissed off about, he confided in me that they told him to get a vasectomy because it would be unwise to father any more children, imagine to be told that at the age of 30 something?
It’s a slow process to help others see the light; I am getting thru to most of the guys. 5 years ago I was accused of being “anti-American”. Now: everyone is buying weapons and stockpiling food and the means to secure clean drinking water for at least 2 years. Now: when I come up with the latest stunt those filthy jews pull, they get angry at them, not me! They all now know how to spot the “Kosher” logo on products that help fund Nazi Israeli war crimes, “Purity” milk is one of the products with the highest markup in price because of the “Kosher Tax”. When I explained that one: they all immediately realized they were being ripped off by this “Kosher Tax”. They also have learned that anything with the bar code beginning with 729 is to be left in the store and rendered unsellable if possible. There are 15 of us now who support the BDS movement and know the jews are the ones who want to take our guns.
Taking in a shelter animal is out of the question. It costs way too much to properly care for an animal. It is a serious responsibility I can’t afford. As it is; we have some hard choices to make. We go without heat 3 days a week to keep the cost down. Most of the food we buy is at a discount because the expiration date has come and gone. I only take half of my meds for my diabetes, high blood pressure and liver issues. My prescription for my eye glasses is over 6 years old now, I have to tilt my head back because the lower lens of my bi-focals is the only one that gives me a fairly clear view of the road ahead. Medicare don’t pay for such things as glasses, dentures, and meds that really work. All I have left is a top plate that hasn’t fit properly for the last 3 years, the lower plate is useless, so I eat mostly soft foods. When we manage to get a steak; my wife cuts it into really small pieces because; things like that; I have to swallow whole.
I’m 65 now and have been taking it “one day at a time” for a lot of days!
I’ve been taking care of me and my own my entire life. I will keep it that way, no matter what comes along. I will not seek any “help” or “charity” because there is most likely a jew hand behind it. I will never give them the satisfaction of knowing a thing about my situation. They will never get that sense of satisfaction from me. I will die first, if that’s in the cards.
Thanks for caring. Just knowing that someone else cares is a real boost!
Maintain your good health the best you can. At 65 you are forced onto Medicare. If you are not independently wealthy: Medicare will absolutely refuse to provide proper adequate care. It may even be illegal for a doctor to give you the care you want!
Are you aware that the “Food Safety and Modernization Act” has made it illegal to grow your own veggies? It’s in there; I questioned Senator Richard Shelby about the wording in that bill, he acknowledged the language is there but “will not be enforced”…”at this time” That piece of trash legislation is also responsible for putting most small farmers out of business. Once they got them all, then: they’re coming after my, and yours, tomato plants!
On the first day of the month you turn 65: they will pull the plug on your health care. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I thought things would get a little easier at 65. Their intent is to make life impossible at 65. After all: it was my money I paid into the system; or so I thought ROFL!

  4. @Kim – I truly believe that matter will be over in less than 18 months, if even that long. The ziojewtrash know they are finally in the end game after hundreds of years of murder and control.

The Patriots cannot stand much more, and many would like to just get it on and over with.

Thank God for the internet, that is the very thing that will end hundreds of years of demented control by these talmud-oozing insects.

I agree: let ALL their deaths be very slow and something that sends a message to humanity that will endure for hundreds of years; tyranny = a hideous end.

These roaches KNOW we are comin for them a lot sooner than they can imagine. They are such stupid, arrogant MF’s. They should have split long ago. Now they will not have that chance.

Let them keep on pushing the window… any f-ing month now – it will happen.

BTW dude – try this; buy as much food as you can from any jew owned company, as most food companies are, then BE a jew – RETURN the packages and say you “didn’t like it.” Do this with the big corporation food co’s [not some little guy]. So the cost is where it should have been to begin with – 1/2 off – if you get a replacement, or free if you say you want a refund. Go get a 2 of the same meals at Mcisrael [mickey d]. Call the manager a few days later and bitch about it and get a jew replacement, you know – free. Head over to jewbucks and get a couple of lattes, same kind, then call in in a day about how they both were not good, and get a 2 free replacements.

In a big town, get a ziojew route going. Steal their STOLEN money back.

Start sucking their money out of their pockets, until the day comes when we get to kill them all and their pals who made it happen. Then we WILL take EVERYTHING they once owned.

TAKE EVERY GD THING YOU CAN FROM THE JEWS! Why would you not do that?

  5. I can say this much – if I ever did want to kill myself, which I DO NOT, I would make it a very patriotic final moment. No way I would just split w/o “evening up” a little.

Never go alone, bring along those who have it comin.

Lots of ex-government trash that have it comin… and have either no security, little security, or easily suppressed security – soft targets. Lots and lots.

I’d have a route on my final mission. I would be remembered.

But like I said, I have NO intention of killing myself. I have ppl that I love, that I need to care for.
