Hope he wasn’t using Windows 8 AND Norton Antivirus. That’s double trouble. Get Linux and Kaspersky, that is if Kaspersky is compatible with Linux.

Let’s use even the most remote degree of critical thinking. He said, “I watched my laptop get taken over in front of my own eyes”. This would be a pretty extraordinary thing to happen to anyone. Even someone that knows that it is possible to happen. The entire drive could not be wiped in a short time. Depending on the size it could take hours. So if anything like this happened to any of you what would you do as soon as you noticed it happening? Try to stop it? Record it? Record your attempts to try to stop it erasing files? I’ll wait for him to post that video first.
He has an interesting misuse of the word “bare” in his header
Since all of you seem to be experts at this, I ran this by a friend who was a military computer expert, hacker, analyst, ultra-secure networks, etc., etc.
He said it’s 100% do-able, “easy”, and more than likely, Dahboo7 is a known target.
He said he could do it in 2 ways;
1. He’d do a few ‘sneak and peeks’, and look for what he wanted, and where it was. He could then go in and destroy the files and OS “in a minute or two”. He said; “You’re NOT reading, uploading, or watching it, you’re destroying it. Only takes a few seconds to make it ‘not there’ “.
2. He could simply access the entire machine and “nuke it” in one of several well-used methods they learn at this level.
Sorry, gang. “100% do-able”. From a military expert.
By the way? This is the guy who had me (YEARS AGO) COVER MY WEBCAM, disconnect my mic’ AND put a 2.5mm plug into the jack and cut the wire. THIS CANNOT BE OVERRIDDEN (not yet, at least).
Finally, when not using, I disconnect from power AND pull the power on my router.
hey Mesphisto. have camera blocked but not smart enough to disconnect mike. However when a leave puter or shut it down i do disconnect the power, and ethernet cord, and turn off wifi.

Yes, disable internal mic, use an external plug in mic’, and when NOT using, get a $2 mic’, cut the wire AT the 2.5mm plug, and simply insert into the jack hole. The external overrides the internal, so cannot be re-enabled.
Second – and it’s a bit scary – learn how to partition your comp and start running Linux (I use Ubuntu).
There is a TINY learning curve, but all your software is free, and I went for years before even adding a small antivirus.
You can boot to Windows for the stuff you can only get there, but everything online should be Linux.
If it’s good enough to run the Space Station, it’s good enough for me.
FYI: My phone WAS tapped the other day, as suspected. Lasted about 2 days. Pretty much took the battery out until it was needed – or (seriously) I took it in the head when I was sitting on the can. Hope they enjoyed the symphony.

Linux is your friend. VPNs and multiple Firewalls will only slow them down. Backups upon backups is the only way you can defend your data in the end.
There are other OS’s too that aren’t so darn vulnerable. LINUX is better. Go MPE-iX. No one will bother you! 🙂
This guy has made some cool stuff, and a lot of us saved off a lot of what he did I’m sure. This is a major inconvenience, but that is all.
