Winter Storm Neptune thrashed Northeast on Sunday with heavy snow, high winds and dangerously cold temperatures. At least six deaths have been blamed on the storm. Here’s the latest:
- Ohio: Three people were killed in accidents. A pregnant woman and her unborn child died in a multivehicle pileup that closed the westbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike just east of Sandusky, authorities said. A 24-year-old Buffalo, New York, man was killed when the car he was riding in on I-71 in Morrow County hit a tractor-trailer and went off the road.
- Indiana: A 7-year-old child was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on US-20 near the town of Rolling Prairie, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
- New York: A 33-year-old woman and a 9-year-old girl died in an accident on the New York State Thruway on Saturday.
- Chicago: A chain-reaction crash involving 38 vehilces shut down part of the Kennedy Expressway on Sunday morning. Twelve people were taken to area hospitals.
- Boston: Neptune had dumped more than a foot of snow on the city. … Thundersnow was reported in parts of the metro early Sunday morning. … Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority suspended Sunday service, and Boston enacted a parking ban.
- Massachusetts: Part of a roof collapsed at a 24-unit apartment building in Newburport displaced 70-80 residents, officials said. No one was injured. … Winds gusted up to 62 mph in Nantucket.
- New Hampshire: A partial roof collapse at an apartment complex in Portsmouth displaces 30 people, police said. In Seabrook, a portion of a strip mall rool collapsed.
- Washington, D.C.: A multi-vehicle crash closed the D.C. Beltway early Sunday morning and injured at least six people, NBC 4 reports.
- Maryland: Icy road conditions caused a Metro bus to slide into a ditch in Rockville, but no one was injured in the accident.
- Power outages: About 95,000 customers were without power Sunday morning across 16 states.
- Blizzard warnings: More than 5 million people remain under blizzard warnings in three states: Maine, Massachusetts,and New Hampshire.
