Woman arrested for reportedly turning in drugs after cops sent out fake news alert

AOL

Most criminals don’t willing walk into a police department and turn themselves in for a crime they aren’t wanted for, but thanks to a Facebook hoax one Texas woman did.

The Granite Shoals Police Department issued a fake news alert about contaminated drugs on the social media site last week that reportedly led to the arrest of Chasity Hopson.

The original post, which has since been deleted from the department’s page, read:

“If you have recently purchased meth or heroin in Central Texas, please take it to the local police or sheriff department so it can be screened with a special device. DO NOT use it until it has been properly checked for possible Ebola contamination!”

Hopson reportedly came into the station to have her stash of crystal meth tested for the virus. And once she handed over the drugs she was arrested on drug possession charges, according to KTLA.

Police released a picture of Hopson, calling her “the winner of the Facebook post challenge,” according to the Huffington Post.

There have been mixed reactions on social media about the drug bust. Some users found the bust comical, while others claimed it was police entrapment.

  1. “Police released a picture of Hopson, calling her “the winner of the Facebook post challenge,”

With an honorable mention at the Darwin Awards.

    Hey Angel! 🙂

I actually posted a link to this story (from a different site) on another article earlier, before this one came up.

It’s undeletable now, though (spellcheck says that’s not a real word, but you get the picture).

  2. Actually it showed she thought it was the right thing to do even if she was high, coming down, or had planned on getting high. Or did they entrap someone with handicaps again. Does anyone besides me have that wtf look on their faces?
