TONKAWA, Okla. – Police in an Oklahoma town said they’ve stopped a teenage girl with a plan to kill and a hit list with her classmates’ names on it.

It happened in Tonkawa.

The details in the case are disturbing.

Police tell us the 13-year-old girl allegedly planned to open fire at her school with her family’s guns.

In a search of their home, police said the even found the girl’s journal with a hit list.

It was a quiet afternoon Tuesday outside Tonkawa High School.

Students and parents alike were still in shock.

“You don’t think something like that’s going to happen in Tonkawa,” said student Kaitlyn Jordan.

A mass shooting plot unraveled when someone called police Sunday with a disturbing tip.

“It’s not your typical actor in this kind of event, this type of incident,” said Cpl. Nick Payne.

The tip led police to a 13-year-old girl.

They searched her house and found her journal with a hit list and research on serial killers.

Investigators sat her down for an interview.

“When I was speaking with her, that was the first thing I noticed, she was very intelligent,” Payne said.

Police said the girl had multiple scenarios of how she planned to hurt her peers.

After police arrested her, they contacted everyone on the hit list and told them she was locked up.

“They were pretty shocked. It’s kind of a hard thing to take, to hear something like that,” Payne said.

But, school went on as usual this week with the threat still the talk of the town.

“I thought it was scary, but I knew everything was taken care of,” said Laela Braswell.

“A customer came in here a little bit ago, and his granddaughter was on the list,” said convenience store clerk Cheredan Vap.

And, everyone is left to wonder what could have motivated the teen girl.

“I don’t know if she was being bullied or what was happening in her life,” Jordan said.

“At this time, we just know that she was very serious about it,” Payne said.

Police said the 13-year-old was acting alone.

That’s why the superintendent said school went on as usual this week.

She’s being held in a juvenile detention center charged with felony threats to perform acts of violence.
