The hit song from From Walt Disney’s “Song of the South” released in 1946 was “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah”, which won the 1947

Academy Award for Best Song and is frequently used as part of Disney’s montage themes, and which has become widely used

  1. Movie blocked here but if you use firefox there is an ad on that opens all blocked videos on You Tube, which is pretty cool.

  2. Some years ago I was thinking about the movie, “Song of the South”, which I saw when I was a youth, and which I took my children to see back in the late 60’s.

Went on EBay and found out that it was not available, now considered
a “racist movie”. About that same time I heard through some friends that someone was selling “bootleg” copies of it through the Orlando Sentinel,
so I bought one for every young niece and nephew I had at the time.

“Song of the South” was a wonderful movie, and Uncle Remus was the hero. I guess we are not supposed to talk about or even think about the fact that folks picked cotton in the South back in the day. Get over it,
    it is history!

And being from the Deep South, I have to agree with Mr. Bundy’s comments about people being better off back in those days. I am
a Caucasian and my people were sharecroppers also, and had to
pick cotton. We got on fine without welfare or food stamps back in
those days. My people worked hard and never complained or felt
“entitled”. Taught us younger ones to appreciate what we had and
taught us a good work ethic.

This county is going down the drain, people, and the drain is not
clogged, so it is going fast!!!

    1. Hey 1611. I agree with you 100%. What a difference 60 to 70 years have made. I consider my self privileged for living those years.

      1. Yep Paul I sure do feel priviledged too bro.. I almost feel guilty looking at the start of our country and how the youngsters act now days 🙁
Yea I am kind of ashamed as to how far dumbed down we as a country has gotten to be. 🙁

        1. Yes Dan the young ones have no idea what it was like when you and I were growing up. A number of them that I know enjoy the music we had back then, but didn’t live it so they will never understand what we have lost through the years. I tell them how it was, but I’m not sure if they understand it.

          1. Yes Paul, it is shameful. America is supposed to be completely different from all the other countries and look at what America has become.
Yea Paul we have fought wars to keep America different and free and look at how it has been brought down to the level that is has.
It is a completely different country from what I remember it as.
Yes, it is not at all the same – not even close to what it was back in the 50`s and 60`s , yea not even close 🙁 I am damned sorry to say 🙁 🙁 🙁 I really do hate to say it 🙁

          2. Paul, speaking of “our music”, just the other evening I was thinking about an old song that Johnny Rodriquez sang back in the 70’s.

If you have time, go on YouTube and
check it out. I had forgotten what an incredible talent he was, and actually still is.

I especially like “Pass Me By’..

Those were the days, my friend!!!!

          3. Hey 1611 just listen to pass me by./ thanks for reminding me. That was a good song. 🙂

          4. 1611 Believer @6:54pm,
Here it is. 🙂 WOW! Long time since I’ve heard that one. 🙂 I did a search and chose this one, for the sound quality (not the visual) 🙂 😉 .

        1. Aw hey 1611. We were looking at it, but from an objective, and financial standpoint it doesn’t logically make sense. We used to visit the Sarasota area every year when our cash flow was better. Wife loves the sun, as it physically heals her. I am a cool weather person. 75 temp. and 30 percent humidity is my comfort zone. So we have several obstacles in our way. However we still have not abandoned the idea completely.

          1. Thanks for the update, Paul. My dear husband and I used to do a little traveling once a year, but just can’t afford to do it anymore….
            would rather eat. LOL….

Sarasota is beautiful. I love the Gulf side of Florida! We live in Central Florida.

Always good to chat with you!

          2. Same here 1611. If you would like my email, just ask Henry. Would enjoy your company. 🙂

    2. yep 1611 Believer agreed too. damned right and our country better get up off it soon and start to act like America the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave 😉

      1. Hi, Digger! I never thought that I would live to see this once wonderful country get to the state it is in now.

My heart grieves, and we wish we could do more, but both my husband and I are not physically able to do much but pray, and be an encouragement to those around us.

        1. Yes 1611 Believer. I also got really wore out too back in the day. I do know what ya mean.
Keep the faith though kiddo. I know I still do hard as it is.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer eh my friend.
We are all nieghbors here in America and we all got to start acting like it eh 🙂 Atleast I think so anyway. 😉

          1. Thanks, Neighbor! I attended a lovely ladies tea today at my friend’s church. The ladies at my table were bemoaning the fact that people just don’t treat one another kind and helpful like our generation did.

          2. Wish we were all geographically closer I sure do.
Geeze I would love to have a get-together Trenchers party – that would be just awesome I think. Yep I would just love it. Money is tight though now days to be sure 🙁 I am sorry to say.

  3. LOVE THE SONG BY THE WAY 🙂 yep, they don`t make em like that anymore Good and simple music – I absolutely love it 🙂

    1. Hats off to Angel in NYC!! Thanks for posting that song. I don’t know how to do that.

From what I understand Johnny Rodriguez is still in the entertainment business.

    2. You are right, Digger, good and simple. I really appreciate all of you on From the Trenches who post the oldies. It is a real blessing for me and sure takes me back!!

      1. Awe geeze , me too 1611
we all got one really great group here don`t we – we can`t be beat 🙂 atleast from what I have seen all these years 😉

  4. Walt Disney was a 33rd degree Mason. There are 3 6’s in the signature created for him by an artist.

That’s all one needs to know about “the happiest place on Earth”.
