Arizona Dad ‘Killed Man Who Tried to Enter Daughter’s Bathroom Stall’: Police Report

USA Today

A Phoenix father is accused of beating a man to death after being told the man had tried to forcibly enter a bathroom stall occupied by his teenage daughter.

A police report published by KPHO/KTVK of Phoenix says the incident happened on Aug. 2 after Melvin Harris, 40, drove to a convenience store to pick up his daughter and two friends.

His daughter told him that a man had tried to enter her bathroom stall; she identified the man to Harris and told store employees, according to the report. The station reports the intruder shook the stall attempting to get to the girl.

Harris had met the man earlier in the night when he asked Harris for money, the report says.

A security guard told Harris that the situation would be handled. Harris went on to approach the man and allegedly punch him in the face. The report says witnesses saw Harris beating and kicking the man as the victim lay on the ground moaning.

The report says Harris told police the victim had struck him first. He said he didn’t remember striking the victim after the man had fallen to the ground.

The victim was hospitalized with a broken nose and brain injuries. He died on Aug. 7, according to KSAZ.

Online court records show Harris is accused of second-degree murder.

Harris’ fiancee told KPHO/KTVK that she believes he was protecting the girl.

“I’m not mad at him, I don’t feel like he did anything wrong. I love him. He did what he was supposed to do for our kid. You cannot tell someone they’re wrong for protecting their children,” Diana Jackson told the station.

  2. A modern-day Bill of Rights human goes the distance to defend his daughter. I hope he gets all the support he needs to make it through the toxic system. He’s taking one for the team.

And yet, something tells me there’s more to this story and we’re only gettin’ a piece of it.

    .

  3. Okay… I have to play the Devil’s Advocate (figuratively speaking ONLY) on this one.

Agreed, the guy is a total scumbag, no question there. But the plain fact is, he never actually laid so much as a finger on the girl. To be beaten to death for shaking a bathroom stall door is not my idea of justice. If we’re talking strictly BoR… where was the actual PHYSICAL injury that could be shown as evidence in a court (common law, NOT Admiralty).

Again, I’m not defending this POS, or what he did, but the punishment MUST fit the crime.

Or we’re no better then the stinking jews, when it comes to true justice.

    1. Maybe he didn’t intend to kill him
Just beat the shit out of him
It’s not his fault he was too weak to take the beating he was probably planing on giving to that girl

I do get what your saying
But sometimes when stupid games are played
      Stupid awards are the outcome

I’m not sure I would beat Someone to death for this act
But I dam sure would leave an endellable mark on his memory for life ,maybe once he got started “teaching “ this guy a lesson
It just felt so right that he couldn’t stop

I for one am glad no other woman/ girl will ever have to worry about this asshole ever again

Some “marks” people carry around with them for life that nobody can phisically see, yet are still very distructive to the victim

      1. Thanks, #1 and EOTS. Both your comments got me thinking about “instincts,” more specifically, survival instincts. Are they innate from birth, or continually being formed by experience?

I’ll have to sit with this for awhile.

        .

    2. Okay, devil’s advocate, it was a women’s bathroom. I don’t have to wait for a bear to bite my child before I put the son of a bitch down. Where was her due process of the law? Or the dad’s for this intrusion into his and her peace of mind and body?
They don’t even hold sickos like this in jail, the communists love them. How many other little girls or little boys for that matter didn’t get away from the bastard?
I think I could win this one in a common law court. It is called the fighting words doctrine. There are just some things you do not do and expect to get away with. Going after a man’s daughter in the women’s bathroom is one of those things.

      1. I completely agree with you Henry! The bastard got what he had coming. Some sicko like this POS goes after my daughter and he will not live to tell the story, I’ll gun him down where he stands.

      2. Again, I wasn’t defending the puke, or what he did, Henry.

My solution would have been a tire iron to both kneecaps, repeatedly, until they were far beyond any chance of repair.

Then the POS would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his un-natural life… AND in excruciating pain for the duration, as well. Highly unlikely he’d be doing any more molesting after that.

As it stands, he’ll not be suffering any more pain… not in this life, anyway.

        1. I would never believe you would defend this puke. You simply had a question about the law. We should never stop questioning, no matter what the circumstance. It is the stuff that truth and justice are made of. 🙂

          1. Don’t get me wrong, Henry, as I have a special hatred for ANY rapists, regardless of the age of their victims (although those who rape babies & small children are exceptionally despicable, and deserve death immediately upon discovery), But I’d prefer to see them in agony for years (such as in the manner I described above), rather than off the hook by checking out quickly.

You see, I do have a vicious side when it comes to certain things.
