At least 8 injured in Ohio State University attack; one suspect dead

CBS News

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police said they killed at least one suspect during an active shooter lockdown at Ohio State University on Monday morning, reports CBS Columbus affiliate WBNS. It is not clear whether there are more suspects.

Ohio State University officials have canceled classes for the day. Nearby school districts in Upper Arlington and Grandview Heights were also placed on lockdown.

Officials say at least eight people were injured, one critically, in an incident that began at the campus’ chemical engineering building.

In a statement, Ohio State University officials said: “Victim injuries include stab wounds, injury by motor vehicle and other injuries that are being evaluated.”

A federal law enforcement source told CBS News that the situation at Ohio State  was initially described to them as a shooting in a campus building. But now investigators are leaning toward this being something else, reports CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues. The source said it increasingly looks like at least some victims were either hit by a car or stabbed.

WBNS reports the incident began around 9:30 a.m. when firefighters were responding to reports of a chlorine leak at the chemical engineering building. According to the station, some witnesses report that someone had run a vehicle into the building, and then someone started attacking people inside the building with a knife.

At least one witness to the scene told WBNS said a fire alarm was pulled inside the Watts Lab, and when people exited, a car was waiting for them and appeared to purposefully run them over.

Another student witness told CBS News she saw a grey car drive by the engineering building at a high speed, hit a cop, then proceed to hit other people.

Police have not confirmed the nature of the attacks. The FBI and ATF both said they had deployed tactical resources to assist local law enforcement partners.

A short time after those incidents, the emergency alert system for Ohio State University sent out an alert about an active shooter on campus.

“Run, hide, fight” is standard protocol for active shooter situations. It means: Run, evacuate if possible; Hide, get silently out of view; or Fight, as a last resort, take action to disrupt or incapacitate the shooter if your life is in imminent danger.

Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther said in a statement: “As the situation at the Ohio State University unfolds, we lift up the victims and the first responders in our thoughts and prayers. We ask for students and university employees to continue to follow instructions of Ohio State authorities.”

With nearly 60,000 students at its main Columbus campus, Ohio State is the state’s largest employer and one of the nation’s largest universities.

  1. “… she saw a grey car drive by the engineering building at a high speed, hit a cop,…”

    Okaaaaaay…, then THAT explains THIS…

“A police officer was on the scene within a minute and killed the assailant.”

The only possible explanation for that quick of a response time is that a pig actually DID get hit.

    Hope the POS croaks.

  2. “A federal law enforcement source told CBS News that the situation at Ohio State was initially described to them as a shooting in a campus building. But now investigators are leaning toward this being something else, reports CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues.”

I guess that federal law enforcement person didn’t get the script before flapping his mouth the wrong way.

“The source said it increasingly looks like at least some victims were either hit by a car or stabbed.”

Changing the story already. As usual….

“WBNS reports the incident began around 9:30 a.m. when firefighters were responding to reports of a chlorine leak at the chemical engineering building.”

So now it’s a chlorine leak? Wow. They’re really going all out and grasping at straws here. I don’t even think the MSM knows how to twist this story for their propaganda purposes.

“According to the station, some witnesses report that someone had run a vehicle into the building, and then someone started attacking people inside the building with a knife.”

So now it’s a person in a vehicle with a knife? You know what, I give up.
