ATF agent shot in head in Back of the Yards; manhunt underway

ABC 7 Chicago

An ATF agent was critically wounded in a shooting on Chicago’s South Side early Friday morning.

The agent was on a federal mission with Chicago police assisting when shots rang out near West 45th Street and South Hermitage Avenue in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood.

The initial calls of shots fired came in around 3:15 a.m. Authorities requested a medical escort to transport him to Stroger Hospital.

“We got shots fired by police. We have an ATF agent shot. He’s the one going to the fire station right now,” an officer said in the call.

Officers didn’t wait for an ambulance. They were going to take him to the fire house on South Ashland Avenue, but instead took him straight to Stroger in a silver SUV with tinted windows. It backed up to the ambulance bay and they all rushed into the ER. He is listed in critical condition.

Authorities gave a brief update later Friday morning, saying that the ATF agent is expected to make a full recovery.

Ambulance 68 brought a CPD officer who may have returned fire during the incident. He walked out of the back of the ambulance and into the emergency room. The CPD confirmed he was brought to the hospital for observation. He is OK.

There was a very large police presence at Stroger Friday morning. Marked and unmarked CPD vehicles were parked in front of the emergency room.

Police are looking for the shooter or shooters that may be involved. The area around West 44th Street and Hermitage is blocked off.

The CPD asked for the Chicago Fire Department’s ladder to search area roofs. Authorities looked into cars and used K9 officers to search the area for whoever may be involved.

Around 6 a.m., officers were involved in a foot chase in the 3300-block of South Bell Avenue and in the 3200-block of South Leavitt. Later in the morning, CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson ordered the deployment of all specialized units to support the ATF’s shooting investigation.

  1. Chicago …, Nuff said?

yep, just keep on ignoring it ..although its like a cancer , just ignoring it wont make it go away

now as far as the article ,, what was the reason ATF was there? what were they doing ?

    1. Dropping off a couple of crates of undocumented guns and ammunition to fuel the gang wars and violence.

      1. That is such a possibility, happed before and will happen again. Wasn’t long ago there was a gangbanger interviewed said the same thing. How does a crate full of weapons just show up in the middle of the night in a alley in the worst part of town? This is viet nam era psyop type missions with “cause and effect” outcome. Create a problem and go solve it with predictable results. More fixed then a casino or the lottery.

        1. Yes Crazy Harry, I saw that too. Right after that interview, the story was gone from the news cycle.

      2. uhuh, maybe Eric Holder still has a stash of them to go around littering the alleys of Chit-a -go

        1. Yes EoS, Holder probably ordered it as he has some left over from Fast & Furious. Another story swept from the news.

  2. Stroger Hospital ….formerly C(r)ook County Hospital….new hospital was renamed for the commie

one helluva trauma unit there….if they can’t save ya no one can…..just sharing 🙂

      1. ‘Authorities gave a brief update later Friday morning, saying that the ATF agent is expected to make a full recovery.’

        1. yeah Mary.. ”listed in critical condition” … ”expected to make a full recovery”. how’s that work? i hope they’re wrong. sad to feel that way but they made me!

  3. to quote Mark Twain:
I was unable to attend his funeral, but I wrote a very nice letter heartily approving of it.

  4. “An ATF agent was critically wounded in a shooting…”

    DAMMIT!!!

I was hoping for better news than that.
