TOKYO, Sept 8 (Reuters) – Japan’s trade ministry and Alaska’s Department of Natural Resources on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding to help Japan procure low-cost and stable supplies of liquefied natural gas(LNG), a government official said.

The growing glut of U.S. natural gas is helping to power a manufacturing boom in Mexico.
Natural-gas exports across the southern border have risen 11% so far this year, to two billion cubic feet a day, according to Bentek Energy, an analytics company based in Denver.
And that flow of gas could double in the next few years, analysts say. Companies have announced plans for at least seven new pipelines to take gas across the border from Texas and Arizona, including one expected to start transporting fuel at the end of the month. However, the results to the power grid would be the same should either one hit. PHOENIX — The remnants of Hurricane Norbert pushed into the desert Southwest and swamped Phoenix with record rainfall for a single day, turning freeways into small lakes and sending rescuers scrambling to get drivers out of inundated cars.
In Tucson, one woman died after her car was swept away by flooding and trapped against a bridge.

Here’s a traffic jam you don’t see every day.
Two deer ran across San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge on Friday, snarling traffic during the evening rush hour. Traffic slowed behind the prancing pair as they made their way from the Presidio to Marin County, delighting rubberneckers, who posted photos and videos of the spectacle to social media.

The United States military says it’s launched airstrikes around Iraq’s Haditha Dam to prevent the area from being captured by Islamic State militants.

A Minneapolis city council member is demanding answers, asking why the council was kept in the dark regarding recent military helicopter training exercises conducted in the skies over downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul a few weeks ago.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A commercial aircraft chartered by the U.S.-led military coalition in Afghanistan for a flight to the Persian Gulf city of Dubai was re-routed to Iran on Friday, apparently because of a mix-up over its flight plan, U.S. officials said.

Two F-15’s are following a Socata TBM 700 aircraft that’s unresponsive over the Atlantic Ocean, according to the U.S. Air Force.
The single-engine, turboprop aircraft was flying from Rochester, New York, to Naples, Florida. “The plane’s occupants did not respond to attempts to communicate,” the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said this morning.
