The two police officers who were involved with trying to arrest a Staten Island man—and killing him in the process when one put him in a chokehold—were taken off the streets. Officers Daniel Pantaleo, an eight-year veteran, and Justin Damico, who has been with the NYPD for four years, are now on desk duty.

Police, who say that Eric Garner, 43, was selling untaxed cigarettes, attempted to handcuff him around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday outside 202 Bay Street in Tompkinsville. A disturbing video obtained by the Daily News shows Garner arguing with the police: “I was just minding my own business. Every time you see me you want to mess with me. I’m tired of it. It stops today!” When a number of cops try to subdue him, Garner, who weighed 350 pounds, is seen swatting their hands away and saying, “Don’t touch me, please.”   Continue reading “Unclear If Cop Who Put Man In Fatal Chokehold Will Be Criminally Charged”

A Queens doctor accused of overprescribing painkillers to two patients who later suffered fatal overdoses was convicted on Friday of two counts of second-degree manslaughter and dozens of lesser charges.

The guilty verdict against Dr. Stan Xuhui Li came after a four-month trial in State Supreme Court in Manhattan and nearly six days of jury deliberations. Prosecutors had portrayed Dr. Li as reckless in his prescribing of drugs to patients who showed clear signs of addiction. Dr. Li’s lawyer had argued that his client had acted in good faith and that the patients who died overdosed because they failed to follow Dr. Li’s instructions.   Continue reading “Doctor Accused of Overprescribing Pills Is Guilty of Manslaughter”

Where in the world is former US Rep. Kathy Hochul?

Key state Democrats told The Post that Cuomo has ordered Hochul “kept under wraps,’’ in the words of one, to prevent her more conservative views from upending his re-election campaign among liberal New York City Democrats, especially Hispanics.   Continue reading “Cuomo allegedly ordered Kathy Hochul to stay ‘under wraps’”
