Dozens walked out of the Cannes premiere of Lars von Trier’s new movie The House That Jack Built, declaring it horrifically violent.
The Danish director called it his most violent film to date and at least 100 viewers couldn’t handle it and left the screening on Monday night.
Matt Dillon stars as Jack, a serial killer with more than 60 deaths to his name who relishes bloodshed and plots increasingly horrifying ways to inflict death. Continue reading “The House That Jack Built sparks walkouts at Cannes”

THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION has always been clear about drugs: They’re terrifying.
Last year, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre darkly warned that members of drug gangs “are infiltrating law enforcement and even the military.” In 2013, LaPierre proclaimed that “Latin American drug gangs have invaded every city of significant size in the United States,” and are a key part of the “hellish world” that awaits us in the future. When Charlton Heston was president of the NRA in the 1990s, he declared that regular Americans would soon be besieged by 10,000 drug dealers freed from prison by the Clinton administration.

In an age where most politicians have very little support for their campaigns and causes, they have been known to resort to desperate measures to improve their public image. While this practice is disregarded by some as a “conspiracy theory,” many politicians have been caught hiring actors to fill the crowds of their campaign speeches—corporations too.
In fact, just this week in Ontario, Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford’s campaign was forced to admit that they hired actors for at least one of their events. Ford’s staff acted like this was not authorized by them, but instead blamed a local candidate for arranging their actors. Campaign officials for Toronto Centre Tory candidate Meredith Cartwright reportedly hired the actors to support Ford at a rally in Dundas Square. Continue reading “Conspiracy Theory? Last May, Tim Allen’s sitcom Last Man Standing was cancelled after a six-season run on ABC. It was a surprise to many, including Allen himself. The final season averaged 8.3 million viewers a week, which is a lot of people tuning in to watch a grumbling middle-aged man throw insults at his wife and daughters. (You see, he was the only man in his family. He was—hold onto your butts—the last man standing.)
A year later, the show is getting another shot. As rumored last week, Fox is officially picking up the show for its Fall 2018 schedule. Continue reading “Last Man Standing Is, In Fact, Still Standing”

Is it dangerous to use the term natural? Paediatricians are now being advised to think so, particularly when it comes to describing breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is natural though, and while it is certainly not the only way to feed your baby, and not physically an option for some women, it is nevertheless, and I think inarguably, the most natural and healthy way to feed a baby, the way women have been doing it since the beginning of time. So where’s the danger in referring to breastfeeding in this way? Continue reading “Some Paediatricians Are Being Advised To Call Breastfeeding Dangerous & Unnatural”
