Washington (CNN)The United States formally withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia Friday, as the US military prepares to test a new non-nuclear mobile-launched cruise missile developed specifically to challenge Moscow in Europe, according to a senior US defense official.
The US withdrawal puts an end to a landmark arms control pact that has limited the development of ground-based missiles with a range of 500 to 5,500 kilometers and is sparking fears of a new arms race. Billionaire financier George Soros has created a super PAC and written a $5.1 million check for Democrats ahead of next year’s election. However, the liberal mega-donor has not revealed which candidate will get his blessing.
Soros spent more than $20 million during the 2016 election, donating more than $9 million to Political Action Committees (PACs) supporting Hillary Clinton, and the rest on committees working to install Democrats in Congress and to boost minority turnout at the polls. Three people have been charged after conspiring to smuggle a 9-year-old boy from Mexico to Texas to be sold, officials say.
Elida Moreno, 26, was paid $1,700 to use her son’s birth certificate to smuggle a 9-year-old boy into the United States, officials say. She is a U.S. citizen living in Piedras Negras, Mexico. (Bloomberg) — Frustrated by Democrats from fulfilling a campaign pledge to build a wall along the southern U.S. border, Donald Trump is getting his way regardless. The only downside for the president is that this wall is in southern Africa.
The U.S. is putting up $475,000 to help restore the stone walls at Great Zimbabwe, a fortress that dates back to the 11th century and which gave the country its name. Much of the funding will go toward keeping out an unwanted intruder from the West Indies known as the lantana camara weed that’s threatening the structure. During the July 30 Democrat Debate Bernie Sanders pledged numerous new gun controls focused on gun sales and also made clear his intention to remove protections that spare gunmakers from lawsuits.

The 19-year-old gunman who killed three people and injured 11 others at the Gilroy Garlic Festival could not have purchased the AK-47-style rifle used in the shooting in California, exposing the limits of the current patchwork of gun laws in the US.
Like thousands of others every year, the gun used in Sunday’s crimes came from a neighboring state with less oversight over who can buy a firearm. Gunman Santino William Legan had recently been living in Nevada, and authorities said Monday he legally purchased the WASR-10 rifle there. Getting the gun to California was then as easy as driving across the border. India’s government and companies are openly pushing for the U.S. Senate passage of a bipartisan “country caps” bill that would reward 100,000 Indian graduates per year with green cards if they take technology jobs in America.
