Sergeant Christopher Kelley was struck and killed by a subject who had just stolen a patrol car following a struggle as officers attempted to arrest him.

Detectives and officers were attempting to serve a warrant and located him on Herrera Trail at approximately 10:00 am. The subject began to struggle with them, broke free, and then get into the vehicle and drive away. Police Officer Daryle Holloway was shot and killed at approximately while transporting a prisoner to the Central Lockup at approximately 8:00 am.

The prisoner had been arrested for aggravated assault earlier during the previous shift. He had been handcuffed behind his back but managed to maneuver his arms to the front of his body. He then crawled through the vehicle’s partition and began struggling with Officer Holloway. Officer Holloway was shot during the ensuing struggle, causing his vehicle to crash into a utility pole near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Elysian Fields Avenue.   Continue reading “Cops down”

On Monday, the Wolf volcano on Isabela Island erupted for the first time in 33 years, spewing fire, smoke and lava.

(CNN) — The aircraft carrier, USS Ranger, which saw action in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm, and had appearances in the movies “Top Gun” and “Star Trek IV,” is on its final journey… a five-month cruise at the end of a tow cable from Bremerton, Washington, to a scrapyard in Texas.

The 56,300-ton warship, which was launched in 1956, was decommissioned in 1993. Russia’s Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team notified the Alaska Observatory of the eruption just after 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
