Activists on top of the UAV Engines in Staffordshire, England. (Twitter/London Palestine Action)Waging NonViolence – by Anna Lekas Miller

On Tuesday, a group of activists from the London Palestine Action group chained the doors shut at the UAV Engines factory in Staffordshire, England, then scaled and occupied the roof. Their demands? That the U.K. government end the factory’s manufacture and export of parts used on Israeli drones in light of the recent events in Gaza.

The UAV Engines factory is one of two U.K.-based subsidiaries of Elbit Systems, a company producing electronic military communication systems and unmanned aircraft systems, including the Hermes drone, which is used by the Israeli Air Forces. As such, Elbit Systems is a frequent target of the Boycott, Divestments and Sanctions movement, which targets companies that supply infrastructure to and profit off of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.   Continue reading “UK activists shut down weapons factory in protest of Israel’s assault on Gaza”

Maybe brand recognition isn’t always such a good thing – especially when you are one of the most hated companies on the planet. Monsanto has a new marketing plan, though. The company’s latest GMO cotton seed will be sold in India under the brand name Deltapine.

This isn’t the first time that Monsanto has hidden the extent of its seed monopoly by hiding behind other company names. Monsanto currently owns 100% of the Indian subsidiary operating under the ‘Paras Brahma.’ The GMO cotton seeds sold under this front were once delivered to struggling farmers under Emergent Genetics India Ltd, a firm Monsanto acquired more than a decade ago.   Continue reading “Monsanto To Sell GMO Cotton Seed Under Brand Name ‘Deltapine’”

Syria’s ambassador to the UN says Israel allows the free flow of weapons and ISIL militants into the occupied Golan Heights and then into the rest of Syria.

Bashar Ja’afari told Press TV on Friday that the ISIL Takfiri terrorists have an undeclared alliance with Israel and are engaged in a secret agreement with the  regime.

The Israelis help the Takfiris infiltrate into the separation line on the Golan Heights from Jordan, where their training camps are located, the Syrian diplomat said.   Continue reading “Israel and ISIL are allies: Syrian envoy”

Off Now – by Lori Rardon

Whenever I explain the OffNow Project to someone, they initially respond enthusiastically.  Something to the effect of, “Wow!  That’s cool! The federal government shouldn’t be spying on us!”  But when I further explain that the idea behind OffNow includes shutting off state supplied resources to NSA facilities – like the water necessary to cool the super-computers at the Bluffdale, Utah spy facility – those same people get nervous. “Shutting off the water seems like an extreme move.  Can we even  do that?” they ask.     Continue reading “Nevada Beats Feds By Turning Off Their Water on Yucca Mountain”

Beginning in 1979, China opened itself to interactions with the West — economic, political, and social/cultural. Almost immediately, U.S. academics began prattling that China inevitably would liberalize its political system, that democratization is in the cards.

It’s now 35 years later.

None of the optimistic predictions came true. Instead, it’s “Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose (The more things change, the more they remain the same).”   Continue reading “China to “nationalize” Christianity”

Oil IraqZero Hedge – by Tyler Durden

Why is Obama now re-committing the U.S. military to Iraq? Why is France strongly backing military action?

Obama says it’s to protect minorities.    That’s nothing new.  Obama is the fourth president in a row to bomb Iraq … while claiming it is for humanitarian purposes.

But the architects of the Iraq War (the one which started in 2003) themselves admitted it was about oil.   Continue reading “The REAL Reason for New U.S. and French Military Involvement In Iraq”
