The New York Times has posted a story that the U.S. has informed NATO allies  that Russia has tested a ground-launched cruise missile, which is a big no-no, that is prohibited by the 1987 treaty banning medium-range missiles, signed President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio took the Russians to task, by stating the obvious, “Putin is not to be trusted.”   Continue reading “U.S.-Russian Relations Get Frosty After Russia Tests Banned Cruise Missile”

Mitt Romney leads the Republican field among New Hampshire primary voters for 2016. Yes, you read that right.

Why not make it a third run for president? That’s something that the former Republican nominee is definitely not thinking about right now. To put it in his own recent words: “Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no.”   Continue reading “Mitt Romney Is the 2016 Republican Front-Runner (This is not an “Onion” story.)”

Let us face it, we have been swimming in a sea of political bad news for about a decade now so I thought I would bring you just a little bit of good news for a change: Henry Waxman has announced that he will not seek reelection.

Rep. Henry A. Waxman, whose legislative record has made him one of the country’s most influential liberal lawmakers for four decades, announced Thursday that he will retire from his Westside seat, the latest in a wave of departures that is remaking the state’s long-stable congressional delegation.    Continue reading “Henry Waxman will not seek reelection”

For the past 5 years, US occupying president Barack Hussein Obama has done a political tap dance on par with anything that Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did on the ballroom floor in their primes. Obama has nearly single-handedly coddled, cajoled and maneuvered world leaders and situations to allow Iran all the time and space they needed to bring nuclear reactors online and create the bomb(s) that will be fired at Israel.   Continue reading “Propaganda Alert: Iran Now Able To Produce A Nuclear Bomb”

“May Day” when repeated three times is recognized worldwide as a cry for help in life threatening situations.  The call is traditionally used by mariners and aviators. Unfortunately, crying May Day in the case of a dying nation will not garner the support of nearby ships or planes.  But it can be the battle cry of the patriots who understand that the country they love is under siege and in dire straits.    Continue reading “May Day!”

MOSCOW — At the height of the Cold War, it was common for American conservatives to label the officially atheist Soviet Union a “godless nation.”

More than two decades on, history has come full circle, as the Kremlin and its allies in the Russian Orthodox Church hurl the same allegation at the West.   Continue reading “Putin Slams ‘Morally Bankrupt America:’ Who’s ‘Godless’ Now?”

While Bitcoin (and Litecoin) garner the most attention in the cryptocurrency world, there are now 83 (and counting) virtual currencies to store your wealth in. Bitcoin’s market cap (at over $10 billion) is by far the highest but we wonder whether the miasma of mimickers – from Unobtainium to the ironically-named StableCoin and from ‘Philospher Stones’ to HoboNickels – serves to reduce the confidence in Bitcoin as a new method payments, or bolsters it as the clear market winner.   Continue reading “There Are Now 83 Cryptocurrencies Worldwide”

News that biotechnology corporations are developing new technology that can allegedly kill insects and pathogens by silencing their genes has some environmentalists and scientists worried.

“To attempt to use this technology at this current stage of understanding would be more naïve than our use of DDT in the 1950s,” the National Honey Bee Advisory Board said in comments submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency before a Tuesday meeting to discuss the risks of this technology, according to the New York Times, which reported on this new development.     Continue reading “Is Monsanto’s Gene-Silencing Weapon Next?”

The United States Food and Drug Administration allowed 18 animal drugs to stay on the market even after an agency review found the drugs posed a “high risk” of exposing humans to antibiotic-resistant bacteria through food supply, according to a study released Monday by the Natural Resources Defense Council.

The study by the NRDC, a non-governmental group that criticizes the widespread use of drugs in the meat industry, is the latest salvo in the national debate over the long-standing practice of antibiotic use in meat production. Agribusinesses say animal drugs help increase production and keep prices low for U.S. consumers, while consumer advocates and some scientists raiseconcerns over antibiotic-resistant bacteria.    Continue reading “FDA allowed 18 “high risk” antibiotics in animal food, report says”
