Scientists warn that thanks to a controversial viral synthesis, smallpox could once again wreak its havoc on the globe. It’s been described as the deadliest disease in human history claiming 500 million lives in the 20th century before being eradicated.

Scientists are now concerned that controversial experiments in which researchers recreated a related horsepox virus from scratch could make its deadly cousin equally replicable.  Researchers at the University of Alberta caused quite a stir last year when news broke that they had pieced together the extinct horsepox virus (which does not pose a direct threat to humans) by assembling fragments of DNA purchased over the internet for around $100,000.  Continue reading “Scientists Warn: World Is Susceptible To Smallpox After Controversial Viral Synthesis”

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed a bill reopening the government late Monday, ending a 69-hour display of partisan dysfunction after Democrats reluctantly voted to temporarily pay for resumed operations. They relented in return for Republican assurances that the Senate will soon take up the plight of young immigrant “dreamers” and other contentious issues.

The vote set the stage for hundreds of thousands of federal workers to return on Tuesday, cutting short what could have become a messy and costly impasse. The House approved the measure shortly thereafter, and President Donald Trump later signed it behind closed doors at the White House.   Continue reading “Back to work: Government shutdown ends after Dems relent”

Over the weekend, reports have emerged suggesting that the Pentagon is in the process of considering another escalation of the Afghan War, with proposals pushing another 1,000 US ground troops being sent to the country soon.

The US had 8,500 troops in Afghanistan last August when President Trump announced his escalation, and has an estimated 14,000 there now. The US Army leadership is said to overwhelmingly back the proposal to add another 1,000, though Defense Secretary James Mattis hasn’t formally signed off on it.   Continue reading “Pentagon Considers Sending Another 1,000 US Troops to Afghanistan”

Earlier this month,  Rep. Bob Goodlatte [R-VA-6] introduced H.R.4760 – Securing America’s Future Act of 2018, a sweeping bill that entails everything from Education and the Workforce to Homeland Security to the military. Also, tucked away in this 400-page behemoth of a bill are the details of a new biometric National ID card that could soon be required for everyone.

Not surprisingly, there is almost no media coverage on this legislation.  Continue reading “Congress Quietly Pushing Bill to Require National Biometric ID for ‘ALL Americans’”

There is a growing consensus among many observers in Washington that the national security agencies have become completely politicized over the past seventeen years and are now pursuing selfish agendas that actually endanger what remains of American democracy.

As Philip Giraldi notes, up until recently it has been habitual to refer to such activity as the Deep State, which is perhaps equivalent to the Establishment in that it includes financial services, the media, major foundations and constituencies, as well as lobbying groups, but we are now witnessing an evolutionary process in which the national security regime is exercising power independently.   Continue reading “NSA “Sincerely Regrets” Deleting All Bush-Era Surveillance Data It Was Ordered To Preserve”
