Last spring, designer Adam Harvey hosted a session on hair and makeup techniques for attendees of the 2015 FutureEverything Festival in Manchester, England. Rather than sharing innovative ways to bring out the audience’s eyes, Harvey’s CV Dazzle Anon introduced a series of styling methods designed with almost the exact opposite aim of traditional beauty tricks: to turn your face into an anti-face—one that cameras, particularly those of the surveillance variety, will not only fail to love, but fail to recognize.   Continue reading “Clothes and Gadgets Block Face Recognition Technology, Confuse Drones and Make You (Digitally) Invisible”

Palm Beach County, Fla. — Footage released Thursday afternoon from an incident involving a Palm Beach Sheriff’s Officer back in September of 2013 contradicts the official story released by the Department at the time. The video, which has not been seen by the public until today, shows 20-year-old Dontrell Stephens being shot in the back multiple times by Deputy Adams Lin.

On the recording, Stephens can be seen riding his bicycle as Deputy Lin trails behind in his police cruiser. As Lin hastily closes in on the young man, Stephens pulls over and dismounts from his bike. Holding only his cell phone, the 20-year-old briefly steps out of the vision of the camera. As he steps back in view, four shots ring out, and Stephens collapses out of frame.   Continue reading “Dashcam Shows Cop Shoot Unarmed Man Repeatedly In Back”

NBC Richard Engel SyriaHang the Bankers

An NBC News journalist is involved in a harrowing scene of battlefield danger. The journalist’s first-person story serves as the dominant narrative for years—but it turns out to be wrong, very wrong. Sound familiar?

This isn’t the Brian Williams scandal. It’s worse: the story of the December 2012 kidnapping and rescue of Richard Engel, NBC’s chief foreign correspondent, in Syria.   Continue reading “NBC knowingly lied to try start a war with Syria”

As president, Barack Obama is many things — many unprecedented things. There’s the commendable: the truly historic achievement (with apologies to Bill Clinton) of being the first black president. There’s the dubious: the lamentable distinction (christened by Newt Gingrich) of being the first “food stamp president.”

But here’s an intriguing, provocative thought: Is Barack Obama our first “Red Diaper Baby” president? Gee, that would be unprecedented.   Continue reading “Our First ‘Red Diaper Baby’ President?”

The US government built “a secret replica of Iran’s nuclear facilities” deep in the forests of Tennessee to gain an edge in its negotiations with Iran, reports The New York Times.

This “Manhattan Project in reverse” is situated on the grounds of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It uses placeholder centrifuges meant to represent Iranian equipment — an assembly that including centrifuges once belonging to Libya’s disbanded nuclear program.   Continue reading “The US built a secret replica of Iran’s nuclear facilities deep in Tennessee’s forest to help gain an edge in negotiations”

Commenting on a Polish MEP’s recent statement that the snipers shooting indiscriminately at police and protesters during last year’s Maidan Revolution were trained in Poland, Russian Foreign Ministry human rights ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov stated that the truth about the tragedy is finally beginning to emerge.

In this interview the EU Parliament Deputy and presidential candidate Janusz Korwin-Mikke also alleges that each successive Polish Government since the collapse of Communism has been much to willing to cooperate with Americans even when their conduct is in contravention of international law. Both the CIA and U.S. Department of State are quite proficient at inciting fears and animosities toward Russia, especially where it concerns the fate of the Ukraine.   Continue reading “Kiev Snipers Trained by CIA, Polish Secret Service claims Polish MP”

"Without objection?" Not so fast. Senator Cornyn will have to overcome secret holds on the FOIA bill. The National Security Archive – by Lauren Harper

Unknown Senators are placing a secret hold on the Senate’s FOIA bill, S 337. The bill was introduced by Senator John Cornyn (R-Tx) and cosponsored by Patrick Leahy (D-Vt) and Charles Grasssley (R-Ia), the ranking member and chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and is virtually identical to the bill that passed the Senate via unanimous consent last session. The bill (now at risk due to the secret hold) would strengthen transparency by: increasing the independence of the FOIA Ombuds Office, the Office of Government Information Services (OGIS); improve access to digital records; codify a presumption of openness; require agencies to update their FOIA regulations within 180 days of the bills passage; and make clear that “unusual” FOIA requests (that are fewer than 50,000 pages) get the standard FOIA extension of 10 days.    Continue reading “Secret Hold Placed on Senate FOIA Bill, Limited Time to Suggest which CIA Operational Files Should be Removed from Exempted Status”

The war on cash is escalating. Just a week ago, the infamous Willem Buiter, along with Ken Rogoff, voiced their support for a restriction (or ban altogether) on the use of cash (something that was already been implemented in Louisiana in 2011 for used goods). Today, as Mises’ Jo Salerno reports, the war has acquired a powerful new ally in Chase, the largest bank in the U.S., which has enacted a policy restricting the use of cash in selected markets;bans cash payments for credit cards, mortgages, and auto loans; and disallows the storage of “any cash or coins” in safe deposit boxes.

Buiter defended his “controversial” call for a ban on cash, as Bloomberg reports:   Continue reading “Largest Bank In America Joins War On Cash”

(Angela Fritz)  Late April is starting to feel more like mid-winter for many parts of the U.S. this week. The Great Lakes and Northeast woke up to snow on Thursday morning and for some, it was actually the fourth day in a row of the wintry weather.

Since Sunday, it has snowed in at least 23 states, as far south as New Mexico, according to the national snow analysisfrom the National Weather Service. Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin have been seeing snow all week, but are finally getting a reprieve on Thursday (if you can call temperatures in the 30s a reprieve).   Continue reading “Winter makes a comeback with snow in 23 states”

natural medicineReady Nutrition – by Tess Pennington

The FDA has been on a crusade against natural medicine that has spanned decades. Their skepticism and perhaps disdain for natural medicine could simply be because, at the moment, they are untouchable. In 1938, a U.S. senator (and homeopath) named Royal Copeland passed a law classifying homeopathic treatments as drugs. Since then, these products are deemed wholly natural and cannot be patented or regulated in any way, thus acting as a thorn in side for the FDA.   Continue reading “How the FDA is Is Planning on Taking Down Alternative Medicine”

The Burning Platform

When I graduated from college in 1986 it was easy to get a job. The economy was booming and 82% of college graduates had a job. The other 18% were probably raising kids because their college educated spouse made enough to raise a family. The mantra for my entire life has been – go to college and you’ll get a good paying job. It seems something went wrong on the road to riches. The percentage of college graduates with jobs has been falling for the last 30 years and has been plummeting since 2008. It is now at an all-time low of 74.3%. Shouldn’t these people have obtained jobs since the government tells us the unemployment rate has dramatically dropped from 10% to 5.5% since 2009?   Continue reading “They Said Go To College”
