At 14 minutes past midnight on 30 July 1945, the greatest single loss of life at sea in the history of the United States Navy occurred when the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by the Imperial Japanese Navy submarine I-58, sinking in 12 minutes.

Of 1,196 crewmen aboard, approximately 300 went down with the ship. The remaining 900 faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning, and shark attacks while floating with few lifeboats and almost no food or water. The US Navy learned of the sinking when survivors were spotted four days later by the crew of a PV-1 Ventura on routine patrol. What an interesting turn of events in Mt. Vernon , Texas …Diamond D’s brothel began construction on an expansion of their building to increase their ever-growing business. In response, the local Baptist Church started a campaign to block the business from expanding — with morning, afternoon, and evening prayer sessions at their church.
