The Justice Department will fast track the sending of $29 million to South Carolina to help families of victims of the mass murder of nine churchgoers at a historic black church in Charleston, a Justice Department spokesman said on Friday.

More than 240 individuals—including doctors, nurses, and other licensed professionals—were arrested this week for their alleged participation in Medicare fraud schemes involving approximately $712 million in false billings.

The arrests, which began Tuesday, were part of a coordinated operation in 17 cities by Medicare Fraud Strike Force teams, which include personnel from the FBI, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and local law enforcement. An elderly woman from the Central Texas city of Riesel, east of Waco, appears to have narrowly escaped being taken into custody by local police after a judge issued a warrant for her arrest. Her crime? Failing to appear before a court over her failure to mow her grass, which was in violation of a local city ordinance governing foliage height on private property.

Seventy-five-year-old Gerry Suttle says she never even received the notice that the city says it sent to her house prior to the arrest warrant being issued. According to the Forward, the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee has “voted to more than double funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to $25 million for the coming year.” Virtually all of the funds allocated to the Nonprofit Security Grant Program go to Jewish organizations for “security” purposes.
