A top pro-Russia rebel commander in eastern Ukraine has given a bizarre version of events surrounding the Malaysian jetliner crash — suggesting many of the victims may have died days before the plane took off.

The Staten Island district attorney is investigating the shocking death of a 400-pound asthmatic dad after a city cop placed him in a chokehold.

Eric Garner, 43, died Thursday after a sidewalk takedown by five NYPD officers making an arrest outside a Tompkinsville beauty parlor.

“My office is working along with the NYPD to do a complete and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Garner’s death,” said District Attorney Daniel M. Fire officials in the northern Michigan community of Mackinaw City have apologized for a faux pas that may end them all: They billed a man killed in a car accident $500 for the removal of his own body from a crash scene.

Roll Call first reported that Ryan Schucard was arrested after the police found a Smith & Wesson 9mm and magazine during the routine search required for entry into the Cannon House Office Building, according to Capitol Police spokeswoman Lt. Major U.S. gun manufacturer Sig Sauer announced a major layoff today, saying the overall slump in gun sales has forced it to cut nearly 10 percent of its staff from its Exeter, New Hampshire, and Newington, New Hampshire, manufacturing facilities.

The move comes as the firearms buying “bubble” has seemingly burst, with many major gun manufacturers reporting slower sales than previous years. Sig says it staffed up to meet the increasing demand for firearms over the last several years, but a return to “normal” sales made those employees no longer necessary. A London-based reporter for Russia Today resigned Friday in protest over the network’s coverage of the recent Malaysia Airlines plane crash.

Sara Firth, who has worked for RT since 2009, announced her resignation via Twitter, writing: “I resigned today from RT. I have huge respect for many in the team, but I’m for the truth.”

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — About 100 of the passengers on the Malaysia Airlines flight that was shot down over the Ukraine on Thursday were reportedly AIDS scientists and researchers heading to Australia for a conference.

World Health Organization spokesperson Glenn Thomas was also among the victims.

WASHINGTON — On the morning of April 25, Jose Moreno Serrano pulled his Dodge SUV into a border checkpoint in Arizona, ostensibly on his way to work at the Mexican Consulate in nearby Yuma.

Using his consulate VISA and SENTRI pass — essentially a “fast pass” for frequent border crossers — Moreno quickly moved through security and into the United States at 7:42 a.m.

CNN has pulled correspondent Diana Magnay out of her post covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after the reporter tweeted that Israelis cheering bombs hitting Gaza, and who had allegedly threatened her, were “scum.”

DETROIT (AP) — A young man who participated in a mob attack on a Detroit-area motorist needed a father to “beat the hell” out of him as a kid to discourage him from committing such a crime, a judge said Thursday.

SYDNEY (AP) — In an almost incomprehensible twist of fate, an Australian woman who lost her brother in the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 learned on Friday that her stepdaughter was on the plane shot down over Ukraine.

Kaylene Mann’s brother Rod Burrows and sister-in-law Mary Burrows were on board Flight 370 when it vanished in March. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A man who converted his antebellum home into a cluttered, quirky Elvis Presley shrine was found dead Thursday on the front porch, two days after police said he fatally shot a man who forced his way into the museum.

A motorist called police Thursday morning after seeing Paul MacLeod, 71, slumped in a chair outside the shrine known as Graceland Too, said Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is suggesting major changes to grocery stores to “nudge” Americans to purchase healthier foods when they shop.

The agency commissioned an “expert panel” to make recommendations on how to guide the more than 47 million Americans on food stamps into spending their benefits on fruits and vegetables.
