FORT HOOD, Texas — Defense attorneys helping the Fort Hood shooting suspect are demanding they be removed from the trial, saying the judge is forcing them to violate professional rules of conduct.

A New York wife accused of killing her husband with her SUV is now in custody on murder charges.

A Florida bus driver will not face criminal charges for a brutal school bus fight, caught on cell phone video, that left a bullied boy with a broken arm.
John Moody, 64, was driving students home from summer school July 9 when three 15-year-old boys on his bus attacked a 13-year-old boy, stomping on him 23 times and breaking his arm. One of the attackers also stole the boy’s money, reports The Associated Press.

Nuclear weapons have alternately been blamed for making the world less safe and making it more safe. As a grad school major in national security, I am personally of the opinion that nuclear weapons have kept the great powers from fighting a third and even fourth world war, since those who have them know they cannot “win” an all-out war without sustaining unacceptable damage themselves.
Indeed, good or bad, nuclear weapons became a cornerstone of national security policy during the Cold War, waged between the democratic governments of the West, led by the United States, against the communist and authoritarian governments of the East, led by the former Soviet Union. But did they have to be? What if someone in our own government helped our Cold War rival develop them? A couple were arrested at gunpoint in the middle of the night when a remote control was mistaken for a firearm.
Michelle Malone, 46, and Keith Abrahams, 44, were woken up by an armed police raid at their home and bundled into a police van.

National Security Agency director says the agency has found a solution to prevent future Snowdens from disclosing classified information by replacing its system administrators with machines.
Speaking at a cyber security conference, Gen. Keith B. Alexander said intelligence agencies are going to reduce 90 percent of system administrators. Does the NSA really operate a vast database that allows its analysts to sift through millions of records showing nearly everything a user does on the Internet, as was recently reported? Yes, and people should stop worrying and learn to love it, according former NSA chief Gen. Michael Hayden.
Last week, the Guardian published a series of leaked documents revealing new details about an NSA surveillance program called XKEYSCORE. The newspaper said that the program enabled the agency to “search with no prior authorization through vast databases containing emails, online chats and the browsing histories of millions of individuals,” and secret slides dated 2008 showed how people could be deemed a target for searching the Web for “suspicious stuff” or by using encryption.
