Gathering Existing Information for Use After TEOTWAWKI

The Organic Prepper – by Anonymous 411

This article is about how to gather existing knowledge and information for use after TEOTWAWKI. Basically, search Wikipedia.org for the basic articles on the six categories listed below, download the PDF of each related page, and check the footnotes for industry standard reference books that can be purchased or found online. Textbooks, workbooks, and lab manuals will also be needed on each subject.

It is far beyond my resources (and probably that of most of us) to purchase hundreds, if not thousands, of such books, therefore, a non-profit entity should be created to buy and store these books, and much more, in such a way as to survive TEOTWAWKI (Doomsday).

I like Wikipedia.org, despite the fact that their history, political, and controversial pages are biased, but because their science, engineering, and other hard subjects pages are filled with facts that are free and easy to find.

How to save the information from Wikipedia

Saving the information is very easy.

On the left-hand menu under the section labeled “Print/Export”, then click on “Download as PDF”. This will take you to a download page where you will click on the blue “Download” button.

The PDF will be automatically put in your “Download” folder, which on my machine is under Favorites. From there you can move it to the folder you want.

This is easiest if you open two Windows Explorer windows – one on the Download folder and one on the folder you want the PDF in. Then,  just drag the PDF file across to where you want it.

What information to store

At first, I wanted information on the U.S. military, bases, weapons, aircraft, and ships, everything I could find. Not because I need that information today but because someday I might need it and wish I had it. I downloaded some 2,100 Wikipedia page PDFs on the military. I started at the top links and drilled down every link that seemed relevant and downloaded the PDF of every page.

This showed me that Wikipedia really is an extensive encyclopedia. Then I realized there was a vast amount of current knowledge that could be saved from Wiki, so I made a longish list of those subjects. That list with links to the top Wikipedia articles on the subjects, incomplete as it is, is below. I say incomplete because no list of knowledge can ever be complete, just as no list of skills can ever be complete.

Yes, there may be some duplication of material from the books in Part 6, but the PDFs gathered here can be stored on USB drives (as discussed in Part 2) and carried everywhere you go in your pocket or purse.

Preservation of Existing Knowledge

The modern knowledge that must be preserved breaks down into six broad categories:

  1. The Basics – Reading, writing, history, etc. A complete set of homeschooling books will be needed here. Our children as yet unborn must learn the basics, from elementary school through high school, or they won’t understand the advanced material below.
  2. Science – Particularly the physical sciences such as chemistry, physics and many more.
  3. Mathematics – All types of mathematics, not just the basics.
  4. Engineering – There are many fields of engineering including chemical, civil, electrical, industrial, mechanical, mining and more.
  5. Medicine – Yes, the advanced diagnostics machines of today will be gone, but humankind will still need medical professionals and medicines.
  6. Machines – Generating electricity, petroleum refining, communications, transportation, etc. All of these machines must be rebuilt unless we want to live in the dark ages.

While there is a heavy emphasis on the subjects listed above, there are also links to other important subjects listed below.

Please tell me in the comments what I have left out. Clearly, on many topics you will want to add much more information, so do that as you see fit.
