A Houston-area deputy was fatally shot behind a government building on Monday, and the suspect was at large, authorities said.

Harris County Precinct 3 Assistant Chief Deputy Clint Greenwood, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, was shot at the building in Baytown, about 30 miles (50 km) east of Houston and taken to an area hospital, where he died of his wounds, Baytown police said.

“Whether or not he was specifically targeted, or whether this was because of the uniform he was wearing or the place he pulled up to in the morning, we just don’t know that right now,” Baytown Police Lieutenant Steve Dorris told a news conference.

No motive was immediately known, Dorris said. No information was released on the suspect.

As of Monday, 33 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty this year, up from 31 during the same period a year ago, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

  1. “… taken to an area hospital, where he died of his wounds,…”

    WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!

    KARMA, B#TCH!!!!!

  2. “Whether or not he was specifically targeted”

Hahaha seriously ? They really are that thick headed, arnt they?

    1. It couldn’t POSSIBLY have been retaliation, RIGHT?

After all, they’re ONLY here to ‘help’.

  3. As of today, the shooter in this case still has not been caught. If he’s gotten away with it for this long, he might get away with it for good.

Perhaps it was someone who really knew what he was doing and knew not to touch the ammo he used (or otherwise get his DNA on it), not to use unusual ammo, not to leave casings behind, not to drive his car to the region of the shooting, not to wear distinctive clothing or footwear, to be sure to cover his head and face, etc. Or maybe he’s just been lucky so far.

I do know this much: solving a carefully planned ambush killing is a HELL of a lot harder than solving a killing at a traffic stop, domestic call, etc.
