Manhunt on for gunmen after two shot outside Nash courthouse

— A shooting occurred Tuesday morning outside the Nash County Courthouse in Nashville, Sheriff Dick Jenkins said.

Two men were shot and suffered what Jenkins described as non-life-threatening wounds.

Authorities are still looking for two gunmen and a white car, the sheriff said.

State Highway Patrol troopers blocked the streets into downtown Nashville, and troopers and deputies were stopping cars and searching people moving through the area.

Franklin County deputies were put on alert as the search area moved westward toward that county.

Many offices near the courthouse remained locked down Tuesday afternoon. Nashville Elementary School, Nash Central Middle School and W.L. Greene Alternative School also were locked down.

Marie Hinkle, who works across the street from the courthouse with domestic violence group My Sister’s House, said the scene outside the courthouse was chaotic following the shooting.

“I heard what appeared to be gunshots – lots of gunshots,” Hinkle said. “There was a man down on the side street next to the courthouse.

“People ran out from the courthouse. They were screaming,” she said.
