This video is from the Rock am Ring show in 2006. It is quite rare that Metallica plays song from other artist in their show but this time, they dedicate this little moment to Jethro Tull, probably as a sign of respect for the legendary band.
I sent this in to tie into Digger’s post: Digital Deception-Can you trust what you see?
When I heard it for the first time I knew it was not right. True fans will notice right away that it does not sound anything like Metallica. It’s actualy Iron Maiden over a Metallica video.
Digital Deception
Maiden is a huge fan of Tulls, have seen Maiden about 4 times, excellent shows with dual leading guitars!I will give Mettalica credit when they finally got a grammy, they said glad Tull didn’t put out a record that year!
Yeah I remember seeing both awards show, when Tull won I had a good laugh, even Ian said something about it, and I saw the next year when Metallica won and Lars ripped Tull on the show. I heard that they made up and Metallica is supposed to have done a cover of Cross Eyed Mary, but could not find it.
Well,Anderson did say when heard Mettalica was upset something like bless their spandex little booties, like all of us he really can be a jerk at times, was nice as hell when I met em backstage at a Providence show.l
Ha Ha Yea Ian has a way with words! HaHa. Who did you meet, Tull or Metallica?
Actually, have met both bands at different times.
Cool man, the closest I came to meeting Tull, was during the A Little Light Music tour. It was in a small cozy seated concert hall, we had front row tickets, right in front of Ian, during the show he came down off the stage with a bottle of wine and a few glasses, came up to me and my wife, gave us each a glass, poured some wine and we drank a cheers, I shook his hand and he went back on stage. Good wine and I think I didn’t wash that hand for a while after. Best show I ever seen 🙂
I knew when I heard the singing… that’s not the guy’s voice. In fact, Metallica’s lead singer would’ve sounded much more like Anderson’s than the Iron Maiden vocals.
