Military mortar found in donated box of household items

KTVL News 10

An employee of a Cave Junction thrift store found more than just household items in a donated box Friday.

The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to Senior Thrift Store after an employee called 911 to report finding a M60 military mortar in a box of household items.

The box was donated by an unknown subject.

Deputies evacuated the building and the surrounding area Friday after responding to the scene.

The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene shortly after and removed the mortar from the building.

The Bomb Squad determined that the mortar was a military training round inert and posed no danger to the public.

The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office asks the public to call 911 immediately if a suspected explosive device is found.
