Miniatur Wunderland – World’s Largest Model Railway

This is Miniatur Wunderland, The world’s largest model railway. This model railway exhibit has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany, with over 1.4 million visitors in 2017.

Miniatur Wunderland has a floor space of 1,500 square mtrs, filled with 9 miniature theme worlds, including, USA, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Italy, Venice and of course Germany.

The exhibit holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest model railway, with a total length of 15.400 mtrs of track. To put that into perspective, the length of the train set, is enough to get you to the top of Mount Everest – and 6,000 mtrs back down the other side!

Here are just some of the numbers of this huge exhibit – it has 15,400 mtrs of train track, 1,040 trains, more than 10,000 Rail cars, 4,340 Buildings, 263,000 figurines, 9,250 cars & trucks, 1,380 signals, 3,454 switches, 389,000 LED Lights, 60 planes that take off and land and 50 computers that track and control the lot.

Miniatur Wunderland was started in 2000 by 2 brothers and has been under construction ever since.

  2. Definitely some cool stuff, Mark! It’s in Hamburg.DE, btw. Cool city and very wealthy, but close to the Netherlands and “you know who” comes from Amsterdam. First time I ever saw a 22K pen in a window. I had to look it up because I must’ve missed exactly where it was after watching it 5×. 🙂 I swear I was only watching it for informational content;-)

    But yeah, I get sucked into the intricacies of these things.
