Missile parts found in airport warehouse to be sent to U.S.: MND

Taiwan News – by Elaine Hou

Taipei, Sept. 25 (CNA) The military said Thursday that components for guided missiles found a day earlier in a China Airlines (CAL) cargo warehouse at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport will be sent to the United States later in the day, after suspicions that the items were warheads were dismissed.

The items are electronic components used in guided missiles that are being sent to the U.S. for maintenance, and customs authorities in Kaohsiung approved the delivery Sept. 23, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement, stressing that the items are not dangerous.

The ministry said it also presented an affidavit of responsibility that there are no safety concerns over the items Sept. 19, when it took the components to CAL for delivery. However, the airline did not pass the related documents to customs authorities in Taoyuan when it transferred the items from Kaohsiung to the northern airport, the ministry said, adding that this is why airport police in Taoyuan held the items for security concerns.

After the MND presented the relevant documents, the airport police agreed to let the items be loaded aboard a plane for delivery to the U.S. later in the day, the ministry said. It was the flaws in the airline’s procedure that caused the incident, the ministry said.

  1. These stem from the technology Slick Willie sold the Chinese. We just can’t build them cheap enough in the U.S. No warheads. Just the missile technology to deliver them.
