We now have a much better idea of how many illegal immigrant children will be housed at JBLM and the impact the immigration crisis will have on local communities.

Six hundred unaccompanied children and some single mothers will be brought to Joint Base Lewis McChord, according to non-profit immigrant rights groups.

The announcement is expected Wednesday.

The mayor of Lakewood told KIRO 7 he hadn’t heard about this plan and he still has major concerns his community not being kept in the loop.

The unaccompanied children are mostly from Central America.

KIRO 7 was told the groups do not want to speak until tomorrow when more is learned and a decision is expected to be made public. They fear retribution like what was seen in California when people lined the streets and blocked the entrance of a bus full of undocumented kids going into federal detention center.

In that California case, the bus turned around and left.
