Orthodox Jews can continue chicken-killing ritual in Brooklyn – NYC judge

A Manhattan judge has allowed Ultra-Orthodox Jews to continue performing the religious slaughtering of chickens in the streets of New York City. The more-than-2,000-year-old ritual was challenged by animal rights group that called it “a public nuisance.”

The ruling by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Debra James came on Monday and marked Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. It starts the 10-day period leading up to Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, the holiest day for Jews.

This is also when Ultra-Orthodox Jews practice “Kaporos,” or the ritual killing of chickens, to transfer their sins to birds.

Before slitting the chickens’ throats, men take roosters and women take hens, and then swing them around their heads three times, saying: “This is my substitute, this is my exchange, this is my atonement. This fowl will go to death, and I will enter upon a good and long life.”

The meat is then handed out to the poor.

Kaporos has been practiced by the Ultra-Orthodox in Brooklyn, but the ritual has been challenged by a group that calls itself The Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos. The activists have taken the case to the Manhattan Supreme Court and sued the city, the NYPD and local Jewish leaders.

They argued that the ritual had become a “carnival-like and chaotic public nuisance,” as more and more participants had slaughtered chickens and then left carcasses in the street.

The suit’s plaintiffs also said that the ritual could potentially contaminate the neighborhood as the streets of Brooklyn get covered with “stench, litter, blood, feces and feathers”.

The ritual’s proponents, meanwhile, insisted that it was within their religious freedom to hold such an event. Rabbi Shea Hecht previously called the case “an attack on his religious freedom,” according to the New York Post.

On Monday, Judge James took the side of the city and ruled that there was not enough evidence to prove that the ritual was a public nuisance. Thus, she gave the green light to continue a ritual that “has been practiced for at least 2,000 years.’’

“No one has the right to change our religion, and this ruling proves we can’t be touched,” Yossi Ibrahim, 27, from the Hasidic enclave of Crown Heights told the New York Post.

The activists’ lawyer, Nora Constance Marino, said that she was “devastated” by the decision.

“I’m beside myself right now,’’ she told the Post. “I’m devastated because this is an egregious event with respect to public-health issues, quality-of-life issues and animal-cruelty issues. To be forced to endure opening up your front door annually to a mass animal slaughter is just dumbfounding.”

The Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos said in a statement on its website that they are going to appeal the ruling.

“Now we have to work even harder to document the violation of 15 laws by practitioners and to speak out for the chickens,”the statement reads.

The group now plans two demonstrations, “End Chickens as Kaporos Protest 1 and 2,” in Brooklyn on September 20 and 21.

This year, Ultra-Orthodox worshipers have ordered up to 50,000 chickens to be prepared for the ceremony.

  1. ALAS. IF WE ALLOW JEWS TO LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY…………AND WE SHOULDNT……. THE BILL OF RIGHTS ALSO PROTECTS THEM.
BUT TO ME, IT SEEMS THIS RITUAL IS VIOLATING THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS. SPECIALLY CHICKENS

  2. Limited hang-out

They’re exposing this chicken-killing ritual to help hide (and deny) the human sacrifices and infant blood-draining rituals. This one gang of chicken-killing kikes probably only uses chickens when they can’t get their devil-worshiping hands on a human child.

Ted Gunderson, who was the head of the FBI, claims there are more than 50,000 Satanic ritual sacrifices of humans every year in this country. Why is this chicken nonsense in the news instead of all the babies murdered by Jews every year?

Do you know of any other religion that has a 1000 year history of sacrificing Christian babies to Satan? I don’t want to hear about chickens. It’s nonsense, and it’s only being reported to hide the real crimes.

    1. And orthodox Jews in Brooklyn get away with whatever they want to, including attacking and ransacking police stations on two separate occasions. (the 66th precinct was one of them, I forget the other)

Go to the NYC building department’s website, and have a look at who owns all the property. It really is Jew York City.

      1. You make valid points, JR.

Anyone that buys that propaganda about them only being
a small percentage of the population probably also believe that the unemployment rate is only 5.1%.
I’d bet the actual numbers are actually very close to each other, more like 30+%.
If you think about it hard enough, you might see the correlation between the number of employed persons at the top of the food chain and those supposed “people”.

  3. “The more-than-2,000-year-old ritual was challenged by animal rights group that called it “a public nuisance.”

Far less of a ‘public nuisance’ than the stinking jews themselves.

“This is also when Ultra-Orthodox Jews practice “Kaporos,” or the ritual killing of chickens, to transfer their sins to birds.”

Which is a crock of sh#t!

The sins were ‘transferred’ to a GOAT, NOT CHICKENS, you @ssclowns (hence the origin of the word scapegoat). Stupid bast@rds can’t even get THAT much right!

  4. What? No animal rights activists going haywire around the world? When us goyim do something like this, they cry bloody murder, but when the Jews do it, it’s OK. Yea, I see how it is.
