The northern leg of TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline may be mired in controversy, but the southern portion of the project is almost complete, company officials said Friday.

Dubbed the Gulf Coast Pipeline, that southern leg is on track to begin carrying up to 700,000 barrels of oil per day from Cushing, Okla., to Nederland by the end of the year. A decorated Air Force veteran pleaded not guilty this morning to a charge of “trespassing with a weapon capable of producing bodily harm,” after being arrested by police in Vancouver, Washington, for legally open carrying an AR-15 rifle.

With “gun violence” continuing to plummet (while gun sales continue to soar), the gun prohibitionists are apparently running low on “gun violence” to exploit, and are thus reduced to blaming their favorite bogeyman, the NRA, for violence committed (or at least attempted) without guns. St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner noted in April that some were blaming the NRA for the Boston bombing. Politico quoted MSNBC’s resident socialist (oops–that doesn’t narrow things down much, does it?) The release of the June Jobs’ Report Friday was something of a relief for the markets. The Labor Department reported that the economy gained 195,000 jobs in June, which beat economists’ expectations. The Department also reported that the economy gained 70,000 more jobs in April and May than it originally estimated.
