In a new Associated Press poll, 9 out of 10 people who attempted to sign up for Obamacare online say they were not enrolled.
In other words, only 10% of those who tried to buy health insurance on the new government run exchanges were able to do so successfully.
The poll reveals that around 7% of adult Americans say someone within their household has attempted to sign up to the Affordable Care Act program, meaning that up to 20 million people could have attempted to access the marketplaces via the healthcare.gov website.
On the surface this sounds good for the Obama administration, but given that only 2 million of those 20 million have potentially successfully enrolled, that accounts for less than 0.7% of the population.
The survey found that the vast majority of Americans who tried to sign up experienced problems including error messages, nonsense text, and pages taking several hours to load.
“Overall, just 7 percent of Americans say the rollout of the health exchanges has gone well,” AP notes.
The poll also noted that most of those surveyed, 68%, believe that the government should not be allowed to force all people to purchase health insurance. Only 3 in 10 believe the government should have that right.
In total, according to the poll, only 28% of Americans support the law, with 38% opposing it, and close to one third having no opinion whatsoever!
In related news, tech news site Digital Trends reveals that CGI Federal received $634,320,919 in taxpayer money to construct Healthcare.gov, which amounts to more than was spent creating Linkedin ($200 million) and Spotify ($288 million) combined. It also amounts to more than was initially required to create Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
“We, the taxpayers, seem to have forked up more than $634 million of the federal purse to build the digital equivalent of a rock.” the report reads.
Fox News also reports that senior White House officials probably knew that the site was not ready when it was launched.
Robert Laszewski, a consultant with clients in the healthcare industry participating in the new exchange, said insurance companies were complaining “loudly” that the site had experienced problems before the launch. “People were pulling out their hair,” he told The Washington Post Wednesday.
It is therefore unsurprising that the Obama administration had not released any figures on the enrollments, and continues to do little to work to fix the government shutdown.

So I guess Obama will never be able to put “Insurance Salesman” on his resumé, but he MIGHT be a successful used car salesman, if he could find a sufficiently shady dealership. I’m sure no honest dealership would want him.
